I just bought a Bulgarian SLR-95 on Gunbroker with the milled receiver for a great price. Downside is; it still has the thumbhole stock. I'm looking for US conversion parts and furniture. I have found a fire control group, gas rod, and PG over at Tapco, and at Power Custom. I have not found any buttstocks that will fit the SLR95 because of the angle of the lower tang. I had heard that ACE made the best conversion parts, but they don't list them on their website anymore. Does anyone know where I could find the best conversion parts for the money, along with a good buttstock? Just a plain, good quality, black synthetic stock would be fine.

Have you taken the thumbhole buttstock off of the SLR-95 yet?

I have not found any buttstocks that will fit the SLR95 because of the angle of the lower tang.

The milled-receiver Bulgarian SLR-95's don't have a lower tang - just the upper one. You can order a lower tang and rivet set from K-Var when you order their U.S. synthetic buttstock, handguard, and forend kit made specifically for the milled Bulgarian rifles. Or, just use you favorite epoxy to anchor the buttstock into the receiver, and use the one screw on the upper tang to hold things in place both before and after the epoxy sets. Then you continue to replace the additional parts with U.S. versions to make your gun 922(r) compliant.

Ask me how I know...

Wow, sorry that I did not answer your question in any way. I was at work and in a hurry, not a good time to try posting. Not sure what thread I was reading...

Gewehr98, that's what I want mine to look like. I haven't received the gun yet, but I want to have the parts ready for when I do. Does the SLR-95 have a single or double hook trigger? Who has the best US fire control group for the money? Thanks.

Bump.

...because I'd like to read the answers to mountain_cowboy's questions above. I'm working on a very similar project. ;)

Oops. I hadn't checked back on the thread, sorry.

The buttstock and forend/handguard set are from K-Var, if I remember correctly the buttstock is longer than the Bulgarian versions by about 1".

The milled Bulgarian SLR-95 has a double-hook trigger, and a rather nice one at that. If you want to change it out as part of your 922(r) conversion, there are a couple of good U.S.-made fire control groups. If you go whole-hog for one that's match-grade and adjustable, Red Star Arms makes a doozy. It's something like $130.00, but it's sweeeet!

Otherwise, Tapco has their U.S.-made G2 fire control groups for $39.95. It's not adjustable, but very nicely made, and properly contoured to prevent trigger slap. It still offers a very clean and smooth trigger pull, 3-4 pounds, and again, no *ouch*.

I had wooden furniture on the gun until somebody made me an offer for the walnut pieces, they came from Soupbowl Enterprises. Here's what the SLR-95 looked like when it wore those:

Just received my NATO length (1.25" longer) stock for my SAR-1 from K-VAR yesterday. Haven't installed it yet but but it's pretty nice. Hoping to get it installed this weekend.

Anyway, if you email K-VAR with the model of your gun they should reply fairly promptly with a list of model numbers of which stocks will fit your gun. I ordered mine on Monday and received it Friday. While you are at it their Bulgarian Waffle Mags are going up from 11.99 to 14.99 after today. Wishing I had ordered more than two. The complete stock set was $85. I think the buttstock alone is $39.

If I decide to swap out the stock on my SLR95 what else do I have to change to make it compliant? Would I have to change out the trigger? Mind has the best trigger I have ever seen on a AK.
