Repair vs Replace
Be aware that they may replace rather than repair, at their option. If they deem it more cost effective, and there's no sentimental attachment to a particular knife, they may just send you a new one.
They recently replaced one of mine, and I might not have noticed except, well, I'm maybe a little anal about my hardware . . .
I took my Buck 298 Sirus over to the factory right around Xmas. The liner lock was binding under certain conditions. I had Chuck Buck's signature engraved already and asked if they could have CJ Buck sign it as well (most of mine are signed by both men). Normally there's a fee for extra signing, but this time they just mailed me back my knife without comment, and with both signatures.
As I was inspecting the knife, I noticed that the original factory blemish had disappeared, and the "FB" stamp was missing. Then I noticed that the "298" stamp had "moved" and that the year ("08") after Chuck's signature had changed to "09" when his son's signature was added, and finally I noticed that the steel designation had changed from 154CM to ATS34.
They had replaced my Factory Blem knife with a brand new one, gotten both Chuck and CJ to sign it, and sent it back.
I'm a happy camper with a new, fully functional knife . . . but you know what? It's kinda funny that I actually miss the original -- blemished -- knife. I mean, really, why would I care? ATS34 steel is essentially the same as 154CM, certainly the *year* Chuck signed it is not that important, and who in their right mind *wants* a knife with a minor ding in the finish??
I have a number of other "factory blems" in my collection. You know, you can't buy those in stores. You can *only* get them at the factory. From now on, that little "FB" stamp is a badge of pride for me.
Oh, my. Look at me. I'm rambling. How unusual.
Anyway, you may or may not be able to tell, but what they send you back may not be what you sent to them.
Enjoy.
