I'm looking into getting a full size pistol and was having trouble deciding on one.

the prerequisites are 9mm, double stack magazine and be no larger then the specs of the sig p226, price is no big as long as it doesn't go over 1000 bucks.

I've been looking at the hk usp, glock 17/19 and the sig p226, but am open to all suggestions.

please give any input on guns you think will fill the roll or ones you have liked for such and do post pictures if you have them.

thanks everyone. :)

you can't go wrong with a...

Glock 19 if you must have a 9mm. Get one with with night sights and you are still way below your limit. If you can be talked into a 40 S&W I would go with the Glock 23. Same size as the 19 with more punch. I carry one a lot and it is absolutely reliable.

I've been thinking about buying a pistol based roughly on your criteria.

I THINK I'm going to buy a CZ P01 or PCR (they are the same gun basically - the P01 has a rail).

i think that the glock 19 is one of the all around best 9mm handguns there are, great size, for everything duty use and ccw alike, high capacity, reliable and accurate. if you must go bigger then the 17 will do you fine too.

or look at a service model xd, you can't go wrong there either.

There are lots of great pistols available; Beretta, BHP, Glock, Sig, HK, Walther, etc.

Try on as many as you can and find the one you shoot best.

Good luck. :D

if you're looking at the HK USP, you should really take a look at it's sucessor the P30...they've incorporated all the ergo improvements of the P2000

of the Glocks, i've had the best luck with the G19...it just points better for me

i like the Beretta 92, but it might be a bit larger than you want. it runs smoother than the others with it's non-tilting barrel. i really like the Elite II

i used to carry a Sig 226 as a duty weapon, so i'm a little bias...i like the 228 better for CCW, more for balance than size. there are a bunch of LE trade-in 226s on the market right now www.J&Gsales.com and www.LCAction.com at a very reasonable price

the ones i looked at had outstanding internals and some holster wear. they are the older folded slide models made in Germany...my friend got a KF dated one

In addition to the Glock 19/17 I'd highly recomend a Smith M&P 9. Depends on your intended use and the size of your hand. G19 for carry. For home/range M&P9. The trigger reset point is much more discernible on the Glocks but you get used to it on the Smith.

you mentioned my choice in your original post. I prefer sig p-series for a variety of reasons over all pistols. After that I'd go for a Glock 19. I like the Walther but it seems parts are fairly hard to come by and mags seem Hk-expensive. Browning Hi-Power is a great choice as well, but seems bigger than a 226 to me for some reason.

no 1911s! lol, not my cup of tea.

I like the sig p series very much, but I would plan on carrying it occassionally and its just a tad to big for my liking (very much worth consideration though) thats where the glock was in the lead but wnate to see what other options may fill the role.
