I have been shooting for a little while, and am now looking to buy my first pistol. I am thinking about the following pistols:
Glock 17 or 22
Sig P226
HK USP40 or USP 9
I would appreciate any input on the subject. Thanks.

Make every effort to beg, borrow, or rent the guns that you are interested in. Shooting them will greatly help you in making your choice.

FWIW, I'd suggest sticking with the 9mm for the cost of ammunition factor. You will be able to do more shooting for less money. Down the road if you feel you want more caliber, just add to the collection.:D

Some particular reason you 're only considering full-size pistols?

For myself I always prefer mid-size (Glock 19,23,32 or Sig 228,229,225 or USP compact 9 or .40). These sizes make for best all around guns. You can conceal them easily, should you wish to, and there is enough gun to make shooting pleasant. As already noted, I would go 9mm and pickup a .40 later.
