i have a friend that's about to make a mistake i think, but i wanted ya'll to give your idea's so he won't do what he's thinking of doing. he found a decent security six blued from the serial number it was a 1984 model with 4inch barrel. we were shooting yesterday and he noticed his ejector rod is loose and came unscrewed a little. i told him to tighten it back up or do as i did when i got my service six, take it apart clean and relube the cylinder. he has got it in his head that the gun is now no good, says a gun shouldn't come loose and one that does isn't worth keeping. i tell him mine was loose when i got it, i tightened mine after cleaning hand tight and so far it's still good. i've heard some people blue lock tight the rod but i'm afraid to do that to mine. he's gonna try and sell it but said if what i say is true, he'll have me fix it. so has anyone had a ejector rod to come loose?, was it the end of the gun? let me know soon and i'll get to fixen it for him. also i have no special tools or a gunsmith close by so is hand tighten good enough? we shoot only about 25-50rds a week. thanks for any help.

yes, I have had this issue and yes blue Loc Tite was all I needed. If he still feels uncomfortable with this, have him call a gunsmith. They will verify this for him.

Yup. One of our Speed Sixes once had the rod come loose. Just tightened it up and called it a day. Your friend is way overreacting.

Just to set his mind at ease - you could always try to convince him that he should sell it to you as quickly and cheaply as possible ...

Don't listen to these people!! Your friend is absolutely right. That gun is JUNK and should be sold to me immediately. PM me right away so he no longer has to put up with such an ill-made POS.:)

My Taurus 66 started doing that after about ten or twelve years. If it comes out far enough while the cylinder is closed, you'll have to pry that little retaining nub at the end inward to free the cylinder. Then, just take that sleeve the rest of the way off, apply Loc-Tite as already mentioned, and re-install.

My favorite King Cobra's rod came loose every few cylinders from new. A drop of blue loctite holds it fine.

There is a purple loctite which is a little lower strength than blue, and if you ever have to unscrew something small in diameter, and don't want to resort to pliers which may well mark up your handgun, you might give it a try. I've had good luck with it in similar applications.

YMMV

His gun is now completely trashed and should be sold. I'm willing to buy it but because it's broken of course I'll only pay a cut-rate price for it!

Please tell your friend a loose ejector rod is not common but not uncommon either. Just tighten it back up and shoot the gun, it's fine. (and safe too)

All he's going to need to do is to tighten up something that the prior owner loosened for cleaning and didn't torque back. If he's not confortable with that, he probably ought to find another hobby. Firearms are just machines, and are not imbued with magical qualities. Things that are loose need to be tghtened, and this one needs to be put back the way it came out of the factory. Tighten it up and forget about it. It's about the least critical adjustment I can imagine. Pad some pliers with a rag and have at it.
