Need Help Building AR-15 in NC

Where can I go to find my "limitations" with respect to building an AR-15 in North Carolina. I thought the assult weapons ban had "sunseted" but I keep seeing warnings in various locations about pre and post ban configurations. The stuff on AR-15.com seems to be a little dated, but otherwise good info.

I'd like to build an "M4gery" but I'm not excited about getting sent to the "big house". Any help, especially from those in NC (I'm in Nash County) would be appreciated.

Also, are there any groups within a reasonable (hour or so) drive that get together and shoot AR's?

In NC, you're free to build whatever you like.

But, do it now.

You should be able to find some guys that shoot in your AO on there.
