Howdy,

This is a problem that is not unique to any auto pistol. The CZ52 today fired 3 rounds and then jammed completely. Slide will travel up and back about 1/2" by pulling the slide release. Slide will not go into battery or cycle back. A round is in the chamber, so the Alabama Option ( get a bigger hammer) is out. Any advice?

Thanks.

Just some wild guesses here.

Maybe a broken locking roller, or maybe one that has a flat spot on it?
I have heard of the "flat-spotting" before.
I wonder ( if it is the problem) if you could move/wiggle the slide enough times to get that roller to turn just a little, so the flat spot isn't locking things up?

I'm guessing that the round in the chamber is either live, or you don't know for sure.
Did you find the last fired and ejected case? If so, any damage? If you didn't find it, it might be worth scratching around for- it could provide clues.

I haven't had one (yet) in mine, but the firing pins supposedly break easily. I wonder if a broken one could tie the gun up?

I'd hate to have to take one to a 'smith, when you could just buy another for so cheap right now.

Sounds like a broken or jammed roller. It happened once to my dad and I with a Federal barrel he installed. The roller broke into three pieces and the pistol jammed tight. I cannot recall how exactly we got it loose, but it when we did get it apart, the roller pieces fell out. We replaced the roller with Czech rollers and it worked just fine. Indeed, though my dad has passed on, the pistol is in regular use today.

I had the slide stop work its way out of position slighty and the same problem happened to me. I used the Alabama option and knocked the slide stop back in place.

Thank you...

for the replies. Took the pistol back to the range and goofed with it some more. The round was live, and it was discharged by operating the decock while the slide was out of battery. Muzzle pointed in safe direction!

Retrieved some of the spent shells, most were split. Russian 1953 production, so not unexpected.

The rollers are not flattened and the pistol cycles normally.

Had no trouble with WWB first time out with this pistol. so it will be no more surplus.

Thanks again,

Marshall

Hi,

As I understand what you are describing, this happened with my CZ52 and upon careful inspection, I had a cracked roller. I was able to unwedge the slide from frame and fired a few rounds before the roller crack was evident to me. In short, a preliminary function check may not mean that all is now well.

I recommend you inspect very carefully to make sure your rollers are okay. If damaged, I'd recommend the hardened rollers from www.makarov.com.

Stay safe,

As for ammo', I recommend S&B as a good reliable/affordable alternative for CZ52's. CTD, Natchez, Centerfire...one of these (and some others) should be able to sell you a 50-rd box in the $7.50 range +shipping.

Stay safe,

Check the slidelock hingepin. 2 out of 2 that I've handled were loose, which caused a number of problems including inability to remove the mag, etc. I bought a pin staking tool from Makarov.Com and am going to test the pistol again this week.
