I just sold my Kimber 1911 because I got tired of its ammo pickiness and picked up a new 4" M&P 45. Well I want another 1911 and after research I think I would just want one that shoots and I can bang it around without really caring. I have decided on the Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911. At the same time I have had my eye on building a 6.8 SPC upper for my AR15 for the longest time too. Both guns would be about 400 bucks.

My Ar shoots just fine I just want something slightly bigger. MY M&P shoots like a dream but I just love 1911's. If you had $400 bucks which would you go for?

I am not interested in opinions on different 1911's or I should spend $100 more for a Springfield GI. Would you rather have a pistol you can beat around that cycles any ammo you put through it. Or a upper for an assault rifle that puts a hurting on bad guys in a time of crisis? I am probably gonna get into reloading soon so cost of ammunition is not that much of a concern for me.

No 1911 I want for only $400 so I picked the 6.8SPC upper since that will likely give you a better value for your $400 than buying a bargain priced 1911 (if you were tired of your Kimber's ammo pickiness, the RIA is really going to bug you).

Assault rifles are full auto so I doubt you have one.

Sorry for being picky, but I thought I'd correct you on that. Although I haven't shot a RIA 1911, I was also looking into getting one of those. I've heard some good reviews about them, but as always, there are always a few bad reviews as well. Let's hope that you get a good one.

go with the upper, then you will have a good zombie plinker! RIA just seems cheap, so if you werent happy with your kimber i doubt you would be happy with a RIA.1911's are worth doing right, so save up for a good 1911 and forget bout RIA.

Sorry about that Picard, you are right. That was the military in me blurting out lol. The only thing with the 1911 is your right, that Kimber was awesome when it functioned. But I want a 1911 that shoots whatever I feed it. I cant reach for a pistol that may save a life then try to remember what kind of ammo I have in it. Did I put American Eagle, Magtech, or my hollow points? Is my gun going to keep shooting? 1911's are revered for their ruggedness and reliability but these major manufacturers keep tinkering and tinkering. Now you can consider yourself lucky to get a 100% reliable 1911 straight out of the box.

My Kimber was an awesome shooter when it worked...WHEN it worked. After being bit by that mistake I am hesitant on dropping almost another grand. The reason I was gonna choose a relatively inexpensive 1911 was simply because if it sucked then, meh, I am out a few hundred bucks instead of 800. Kimber just disappointed me but I dunno, maybe I just got a Friday gun.

My RIA 1911A1 runs fine with anything I've put in it. It is a great knock-around 1911.

My answer is that if you don't have a handgun now, get the RIA. If you do, make the decision on what you would actually do with the firearm.

I plan on getting a 6.8 AR eventually, but as it is the LR-308 and AR that I have are filling the gaps well. So the 6.8 always gets put on the side.

Let's see - there' no real need for one or the other.

Sounds like a decision based on nothing more than emotional desire.

Those are the hardest decisions to make - and live with!

Good luck!!!
