I would find a short action savage first, it will say model 10 or 11 or 14, not three digits. find one used. then get a higher power scope, that is better.
If not, then find a new rifle/scope pkg, that is a short action one. If all else fails, Get a stevens rifle, for about 280, it is the same as savage, but without accutrigger, and cheaper stock. that is their cost new. then go get the better glass.
