I've got some good cash coming my way soon from some overtime at work.

I've been needing an optic for my AR for a little while and I've been doing research on different options.

My budget is a max of around $525.

I've been fawning over either an Eotech (probably 510 series), Mepro M21 or Lucid HD7.

The Eotech sounds like a good optic, but may have issues with battery springs.

The Mepro needs no batteries or anything, but might have issues in twilight/night settings.

The Lucid seems like a damn nice scope for the money with a lot of accessories and it'd leave me more money for ammo and other bits.

This is my first rifle and I imagine the majority of my use for it will be carbine/3 gun, but also HD which means it needs to be ready to go quickly, but also easy to use in possible low light situations. I also feel like I'd prefer to reduce the blocking of periferial (not enough coffee to spell that right) vision as much as possible which the HD7 might do?

If you will be shooting 3 gun then I prefer a 1-4x scope. For that, the Burris MTAC is a great scope. At 1x, it works much like an eotech or other 1x optic, but it will then magnify for further shots.

If you want solely a 1x optic, I like the Eotech. If you want to avoid battery problems, the 512 Rev F took care of them.

It's new, I've handled one (saw in two different Walmarts) and while there are a few things I'm not sure of, I have one of these on backorder from SWFA Outdoors for around $237 (MSRP $419, Walmart $299) - It's also $237 from ManVenture Outpost, but like SWFA Outdoors, they probably haven't received their first batch in yet (I signed up for the e-mail alert at ManVenture Outpost).

Not sure about the lever and turret size (smaller would be nicer?), but like the illuminated reticle, and the fact that it's first focal plane reticle.

I recently bought my first variable power scope (Nikon P22 on a 15-22) and found out the BDC reticles change value depending on power dialed up - to me, that really sucks.

Had to do a little homework - for me, I much prefer a first focal plane scope so the BDC values remain the same no matter the power you're using.

I was close to getting a Leupold VX-R Patrol, but hated the fact that it was a second focal plane scope.

I have the leupold vx-r 1.5-4x zombie version with the green firedot. hands down the best scope I have ever owned. The glass is super clear, the green dot is visible even in bright sunlight and will turn off automatically after 4 mins and will turn back on when the rifle moves so it is ready to go.

Id personaly put an aimpoint on it. You should be able to find a comp 3 in that price range and if you find later you need magnification save a few more bucks and by a flip mount magnifier for it. To me the ultimate set up for what your going to do would be an acog but there a bit higher priced then your budget.

Best optic for a budget, the Lucid HD7 is available for under $200 delivered. The vision blockage issue is not bad on the HD7 if you run with both eyes open. It's a quality optic and is in limited use in the US Army as a standard rifle optical sight. The best RDS in my opinion is the Aimpoint PRO or the Trijicon RX06. I have rifles in my collection that wear all of these named optics as well as an Eotech and all are excellent options, but my personal favorite is the Trijicon RX06.

For magnified optics, I really like the Trijicon Accupoint series and ACOG. That's just my opinion resiulting from use. Naturally, they are huge money and will cripple the gun fund.

If your leaning towards the Lucid HD7, drop me a PM as I have them in stock as well as the American Defense QD throw-lever retrofit kit.
