I am looking to get a new rifle, as my last few purchases have been handguns.....need to get balance back. I'm not a big hunter; Missouri deer, hogs, squirrels, etc.
I have a nicely equipped Stag SA2 (about 20 mags, 3000k ammo), a 10/22 Take-Down, a Savage 11/111 in .243, Savage MKII .22lr and a Tikka T3 Lite in .30-'06.
Here are my own "choices":
Ruger Scout in .308
S&W M&P10
Armalite M-15 A4 (T)
I am really torn between all 3, but can only afford one right now. I like the idea of owning an AR-10, but I can probably count on tripling the cost of the rifle by getting in to this platform, i.e. optics, furniture, a whole new caliber, etc.
The Scout rifle has always intrigued me, but I kind of see it as a novelty. Can it really do a lot more than a standard, bolt hunting gun? Maybe I'm overlooking something that draws me towards it?
And finally, The Armalite. I already have plenty of mags and ammo, parts for the platform - but it bores me.....kinda. I'm looking at this because it is a target model, but that brings me back to the AR-10.....500 yard shots would be much more enjoyable than trying to get a 69 gr bullet to hit at 200. I do understand the saying that two is one, and one is none, but dropping 1K on another 5.56......I don't know.
And no M1 Garand for this discussion.
Any words of advise??
