I have a new Taurus 24/7 45ACP.

I'm having the following problem. When firing MagTech 230gr FMC ball ammo, about once per clip I have a FTFeed. The round gets hung on the ramp - and this is what worries me - it will partially (and in one case fully) eject the magazine in the process.

I have NOT had the problem with Federal HydraShock or PMC Gold FMJ. I only have about 500 rounds through it so far, so I haven't tried a lot of other brands.

So, is the case:

A. It just needs to be broken in.

B. It is defective, and needs repair.

C. It is finicky, and I should sell it to someone willing to feed it only what it likes.

D. The MagTech ammo is the problem and should be sold to someone with a "mikey" pistol that eats anything.

E. None of the above.

Thanks

Make sure you keep your gun clean & oiled. Breech face is hard to clean , and may not let a round slide up if its dirty.JDGRAY

need more testing.

the partially ejecting magazine is a problem, period.

First, be certian you are inserting the magazine all the way. Slap it in, then pull down to make sure it's locked in place. If you don't already have one, you need another magazine.

Observe the magazine body, note any unusual bend, kink, dent, etc. With the gun unloaded, safe direction, fingers off the trigger, observe the operation of the magazine release. If it is loose, or can be jarred loose, again, that's a problem, and needs to be rectified by the mfgr.

It's peculiar that you're only observing this with Magtech, but I wonder how statistically relevant that is. what I mean is have you tested an even number of rounds of each brand, or say 20 or 40 Hydrashoks, 100 PMC's and the rest Magtech? - just an example, not trying to put the words in your posts for you. Save the rounds which don't feed, and get some measurements with a set of dial calipers, comparing them to SAAMI spec and your other test rounds. It's possible that the rounds are imperfect - could be too long, too much case mouth bell, etc.

If I had to guess from your description above, I'd guess it's a gun problem, not an ammunition problem. Either the magazine is not seated all the way sometimes, you perhaps are inadvertently manipulating the magazine release, or, the magazine release is working loose enough to unseat the magazine and causing the FTF. IOW, I think the FTF is a symptom, not the problem.

Make sure you're not manipulating the magazine release inadvertently, get some more rounds to test with, another magazine too. If it continues and your rounds which don't feed are within SAAMI spec, I'd suggest returning the gun to the mfgr for repair.

Problem

Just takin' a semi-educated WAG...I'm gonna call this one a mag release problem. It seems that the magazine releases during the feed and causes the nose-dive instead of the other way around. You can try duct-taping the mag firmly in the well and see if that stops the FTFs. If they stop, you've got your answer. OR...Fire the gun with the butt held against a tabletop to
prevent the mag dropping. A new mag...a new release spring, or a mag catch may be the fix.

Luck!

same deal with my MillPro145

I have the same problem with my Mill Pro 145. Called Taurus today they said to send the magazines to them for replacement. If that doesn't help they said to send the gun to them. PITA

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

The first thing I checked was to make sure I wasn't hitting the release by mistake, and I'm fairly sure that's not the case. Also, it's a new pistol and two new Taurus factory mags, and they all look fine. It's definitely NOT dirty, and the feed ramp was mirror polished out of the box.

The mags seat very positively, with a distinct click. BUT - and here I think Smurfslayer and 1911Tuner may have put me on the right track - the release only needs to be depressed about 1/16 of an inch to drop the mag, and it has a very light touch. Could be jarring loose. Will try the duct-tape trial.

You're also pretty close on the distribution, Smurfslayer. I think it was 25 of hydrashock, 150 of PMC and 350 of MagTech. (Picked up a case at wholesale prices.) I will put a caliper on anything that doesn't feed.

Thanks.
