Need help fast...Colt 04012XS-UPDATE!

I have the chance to buy a LNIB 04012XS Stainless Combat Commander for $669. I don't own any colts newer than the original 70 series. Can anyone tell me a little more about this pistol? Seems like a good price to me. I am thinking about going to pick it up first thing in the am. Is it worth it?

TIA

Mike

I bought it. I fell in love at first sight (No pun intended). The fit and finish are the nicest I've ever seen on a factory colt. Here is a picture. Any info on this particular model is appreciated. I understand that this variation was made less than a year.

WHat...Nobody know anything about this pistol...

Tuner, Blues Bear, Tamera??? Hello...Buehler..:D

Help's a-Comin'

Manufacturer's suggested retail price is about 900 bucks now...but most
dealers let'em go for between 7-fifty and 8. I'd offer 600 out the door
and go from there. If it's a used trade-in, he's got between 500 and 550
in it.

Nice pistol, by the way. My XSE has been good to me.

That seems like a pretty good price for an XS Colt. They are getting very hard to find and are well thought of by Colt guys.

Let's just say you are a lucky :cuss: to get it.

The "XS" Colts, with their Novak like sights, rarity, nice finish, and attractive grip safety, are highly sought after by Colt fanciers. I'd pay a grand for one in CA, were I to come across one!

You did good! Definately a keeper, but just in case you ever decided to get rid of it they are highly desirable. Just go to the 1911 forum (Colt section) for more info.

They don't?

Sean said:

No it isn't, because Colt doesn't sell the XS anymore

 Maybe I shoulda bought that one at the pawnshop
last week for 6 and a quarter...:uhoh:

Sean's right...It's the XSE that's 900 suggested. I thought the XS was still
available.

Thanks for the info Guys!!!

Glad to know I did o.k.. I'll get to the range today and see how she shoots.

Thanks again, a nother good example of the breadth of knowlege here at THR.

In a world absolutely awash with Kimber Customs and Springfield Loadeds, you just don't see many of the "factory custom" Colts around.

Other than the annoying "dorsal finned" grip safety, I think they're fantastic guns, and well worth snatching up when found for reasonable prices.

I'd have to do a lot less part-shuffling on one of those than on the equivalent Brand K or Brand S gun to make it fit my stable.

Tamara, Any suggestions...

for replacing that Dorsal Grip safety. I Don't like it, but I want a safety that I can fit to it without cutting on the frame. Do you know, is there a night sight that will drop into the current slide cuts?

THanks for the info!

I like the grip safety...and I wish to God I still had the XS Combat and Lightweight Commanders I traded off a few years back. Regret getting rid of them now.

Do you know, is there a night sight that will drop into the durrent slide cuts?

Heinie makes a night sight that fits in the XS dovetail. I think it's the #305.

...arrggghhh....must......leave....the PRK.....so I can buy guns I want instead of what the politicians approve here....

Wilson's "drop-in" beavertail grip safeties seem pretty good - I have installed a couple on late model Colts, and they worked fine.

DO NOT lose any parts, alter the frame of your XS, or throw away the box! It's hard to guarantee anything about collectability, but that one should hold its value well. Also learn to avoid making the "idiot scratch" under the slide stop, as 1911 collectors will make fun of you.

techmike, that Colt is an absolute piece of junk and you'll shoot your eye out, so just send it to me and I'll...um...er..."dispose" of it.
