I need info for Colt 1911's

Is there a website that explains the difference between Combat Commander, Government Models, 70 Series, 80 Series, Etc?


I need to know what magazines fit what etc.

I have a Combat Commander and am looking at more.

Go to the 1911forum.com. Go to the Colt sub-forum under manufacturers. One of the first posts is a sticky from member dsk about the 70/80/1991 and issues like that.

Gov't = 1911 style pistol with full frame and 5" barrel.
Commander = 4.25" barrel on same sized frame. (some minor frame differences, but same size).

Combat Commanders (post 1970 steel frame model) and Gov't. all share the same magazines. If you need magazines to fit it, pm me, I have some for sale.
