Hopefully Dfariswheel sees this...I know you are an expert on Colts....

I ordered a pair of checkered wood grips from Numrich but they don't come with a screw (2nd issue for square butt, 1969 model). Can you tell me if this is the right screw for the second series short butt frame?

Stock Screw $2.95

I have another pair of the second series grips and the screw is a tad shorter than the one on my 3rd issue grips...the thread is also different. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a tough call without knowing if the grips you have are genuine Colt factory, and if the screws listed are also original Colt factory.

Without knowing both, I can't really say for sure if the screw will fit or not.
You might just email Gun Parts and ask them which you need.

Thanks D. I figure I might as well post the pics in case anyone else has the same issue in the future.

My grips are genuine factory...they are off my dad's 1969 DS. I ordered another pair from Numrich but they don't come with the screw.

The screw on the right in each picture is the one I need for the stocks on the 66-72 model. The one on the left is for the larger stock wood on the post 72s. As you can see, the earlier model screw is slightly shorter and has a wider head but it's not as deep...

Dfaris...do you happen to know if the 66-72 is the same size as pre 66 long frame? Some sites mention "very early Colt DS" so that might work...
