My budget is right around 500-600 dollars. I have been working at cz's "527". they seem nice i was was wondering how they stacked up and if there is a better cheaper route. no savages or "plastic" guns I like blued steel and walnut.

i have a rifle chambered in each of your listed choices. if i was to start over i would get a 221 fireball. i reload. if i could not reload i would get the 223. by the way, why have you eliminated the savage rifles?

I have a CZ 527 American in .223 and love the rifle. Nice balance, accurate and good fit and finish. If you have the money for it I'd recommend you take a serious look at one. I own 4 CZ rifles and they have all been quality weapons with no issues.

You need to look at the Savage Light Weight Varmint series the Model 25 comes in .223 Walnut stocks, detachable mag, blued steel.

I have a nice 222 savage 340 i bought a awhile back had it fixed up and replaced a couple parts but i am just not a fan of it the wood is awesome but the stock is chunky. I have looked at savage and have not found there guns to be the great deals AND OR the design turns me off. I like the cz's had any one had any problems with them because of the bolt handle hitting your optics.

(For you savage guys i don't dislike savage guns there are quite a few i wish i had)

picking out a rifle in 222 or 223

the cz is a great rifle I can say this because I have one and I have shot others. I have both 222s and 223s in different rifles and I like them all. The 222 always seemed to have a nicer personality maybe because its wood and blued steel . Whatever you can have fun with both calibers. the 527 is a great rifle. Have fun.
