I am about ready to replace the recoil spring (okay, springs) of my Ultra Carry CDP (I've ordered & received a set from Wolff).

I just need to know if there are any special techniques or "tricks" that will facilitate disassembly/reassembly of the recoil spring assembly?

Thanks in advance!

Ray

You take the recoil spring out anytime you field strip it and clean it. Maybe I'm missing your question?

Dave

Well . . .

The Ultra is the shortened slide/barrel version; field stripping is not a la M1911; the "recoil spring" consists of an assembly of two springs and a guide rod. I use a pin ('disassembly tool" per Kimber) to trap this assembly as a unit. I wondered if anyone has figured out homemade a "tool" or technique to easily put these two (fairly powerful) springs back together.;)

Take a washer with a hole the size of the recoil rod and cut a slot in it for the take down pin to pass thru. Put the washer in the vice with the slot up. Pass the guide rod thru the washer with the take down pin aligned to pass thru the slot. Apply enough pressure on the guide rod to compress the spring, remove the takedown pin and relax the pressure to let the springs unload, remove the springs. Repalce them with the new springs and put the guide rod back thru the washer, push the guide rod thru the washer and reinsert the take down pin. You'll have to angle the guide rod a little to get the take down pin thru the washer when removing the old springs.
Nutin to it-----!
