I have run into a problem and quite possibly purchased a TAURUS PT 1911 under the pretense of it being new when it may not have been.

My problem began when I took the gun to the range the first time and cycled 50 rounds thought it.( Although it may not be broken in but I cannot assume the reasons for its actions) The slide will not lock every time the last round its shot. Sometimes it locks and other times you when you reload you have to cock the gun and chamber a round manually. What could this be? Is my slide lock malfunctioning or could if have something to do with my factory mags? In addition to my slide problem the mags get overheaded and start to stick when trying to eject the mag to reload. You have to pull the mag in order remove it. Also when cleaning the pistol I would work the slide and almost every other time when I would release the slide the hammer would fall completely down what could cause this?

Any information is greatly appreciated thank you in advance.

It sounds like you have mag problems, if you have other non-Taurus mags you can try those and see if you can isolate the problem. But the hammer falling is very worrisome because that's particularly dangerous and you shouldn't attempt to fire it while it's doing that.
The pistol should go back to the factory or a trusted 1911 gunsmith in your area, there could be sear/hammer problems at the least.
Speaking of why you think it's used...can you clarify? Does it not look new internally? Or are you basing that on these malfunctions?

I have a PT1911AR and it's been superb for me, really pleased with it.

A warped trigger bow could be dragging on the magazines, and also binding up and not allowing the disconnect to do what it does so you have hammer follow.

Another problem with dragging magazines in a 1911 can be caused by the grip screws being too long and sticking out inside the magazine well. That could also force the magazine off-center to the right and cause the magazine follower tab to miss the slide lock and cause it not to lock the slide open.

Other reasons for hammer follow are:
* Damaged sear or hammer hooks.
* Sear spring bent wrong in an attempt to lighten trigger pull.
* Disconnecter not fitted properly.

If you are not familiar enough with 1911's to do the trouble shooting yourself?
You need to find a local gunsmith, or send it back to Taurus for repair.

Hammer follow is a dangerous condition telling you something is wrong, and you should stop shooting the gun until it is corrected.

Mine did the same thing, tried a friend's pt1911's slide release and it worked fine. ended up using a jewlers file to remove a few thousandths from my slide release on the flat portion of the inner vertical section (sorry if this description sucks) of the slide release and it works great now.
