This morning I was offered for sale a 6" blued Python by a co-worker. The serial number of the revolver is K160XX and the seller said it he had since 1997 but was purchased by his father-in-law around 1988.

I have seen this revolver before and it is in prime condition and shoots great. Only thing I would like to know is when this revolver was actually produced.

Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, it was made in 1980. The "K" prefix Pythons started out with K01000 in '79, and went to about K16265 by the end of the year.

1980 started at K16266.

Dating a Python? Look, you can love your guns, just don't love your guns.

Sorry, I "fat fingered" the keys.

Your Python was made in 1979. The "K" series went from K16266 in 1980 so yours was produced in later 1979.

Thanks guys :)

I went and got the Python last night. It looks good next to my other 2 1/2" and 4" Python :D I'm still looking and thinking about 8" Python for future.

I have a six and an eight inch Python, I was planning on getting a four and a 2-1/2, but the prices skyrocketed, so my collection remains incomplete. I even entertained fantasies of finding a three inch Python, but not anymore!
