I have a rifle shooting to the right. Do I drift the front sight to the right? Isn't it move the front towards the POI and the rear away?

Thanks,
tjg

You have it correct. I believe you move the rear sight in the direction you want to move the POI and the front sight in the direction opposite the change in POI you desire. E.g., if you move the rear sight to the left you will have to move the front of the barrel to the left to get the front sight to line up in the rear thus moving POI to the left; if you move the front sight to the right you will have to move the barrel to the left to get the front sight back in the rear sight thus moving POI to the left.

You got it Pinetree. Move the rear sight in the direction you want the POI to move and move the front sight in the opposite direction you want the POI to move. :)

Sometimes the easist reminder is - hold out arm, straight ....... and point to side or above/below target you wish to impact - imagining that as the direction bullet currently taking ----- then ''see'' in mind's eye a blade (on hand - use stuck up thumb) or ''U'' (on elbow) depending on which sight you intend to move.

It usually looks more obvious when doing this as it magnifies the whole effect. Otherwise of course -

Rear = same direction as required correction

Front = opposite to required correction

It is so simple that even an idiot can understand it.

Let me explain it to you, I once adjusted the sites on my OlyArms AR-15....well, let's just say that it took me a while...like two hours...because I could not figure out which way to adjust the rear site...Even if it did take about 700 rounds on a broiling summer day with the hand guard too hot to hold and sweat dripping down into my eyes so I couldn't see. But none of that was my fault. Nope. OK, I finally did it, which proves that even an idiot can understand it...eventually....

A easy way I remeber is FORS

F ront
O pposite
R ear
S ame

Hope this helps

You can simply think of the sights as lined up on the target and the gun as the unit to be adjusted.....which is actually the case anyway.

The question then becomes how to adjust the sights to get the gun on target which is very obvious usually.

In your case your sights are lined up, but the rifle is shooting to the right, it is evident then that you need to drift the front site to the right in the dovetail to bring the muzzle of the gun more to the left and on target.

No voodo, no mnemonic devices.

I think I got it. In summary:

Gun is shooting 2 feet to the right. Russian M38.

If talking about moving POA, its FORS. My POA is to the left move front right.
If talking about moving POI, its FSRO. My POI is to the right, move front right.
