Depends on your area. I consider $300 to be Ok for one in Good shape.
Which model is it ? There were 4 variations.

1st #1-72000

2nd #72001-105050

3rd # 105051-468096

4th # 468097-554446

According to one of the guys a Numrich/Gun Parts the .32 calibre 1903 slide and the .380 calibre 1908 slide are different. To convert one to the other requires a slide and barrel swap as well as a mag swap.

y'know, the thing I've never really understood was why, in essentially identical platforms, the .32 ACP was so much more popular than the .380. My grandfather, who ran a printing business in NYC during the 30s and 40s and was licensed to carry a pistol -- and owned a couple of 1911s so surely understood the large bore concept -- carried a 1903 when he went to the bank to get the payroll (remember back when people were paid in cash, rather than direct-deposit electrons?).

They are unbelievably flat and slick, that's for sure, but they are not small, and given the length and height -- we are not talking Kahr K9s here -- I would have thought he, and most others would go for the .380. After all, it's the same size.

Thoughts??? Obviously a lot of people thought the same way, given the numbers Colt sold.

Stevie-Ray...

"Evidently mine is of the 3rd variation, as it's in the 300Ks. Anybody know the dates of these?"

Upon the advice of more experienced collectors, I went out and bought R. L. Wilson's "COLT'S Dates of Manufacture". According to him:

Year Starting Ser Number
1919 290000
1920 328000
1921 374000
1922 400000

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

I am surprised no one mentioned Sam Lisker's Colt Autos site, www.coltautos.com is jammed full of information and pictures. My 1914 M1903 in .32 auto will not except the 380 magazine from my M1908 as the magazine opening is too small in the 32.

Later,
Tom
