They can most certainaly be re-barreled.

Can you re-barrel it yourself?

No, probably not without a barrel vice, action wrench, finish chamber reamer, head-space guages, and maybe a lathe.
And the knowledge & skill to use them all.

Outside of that,it's a piece of cake.

The Spanish La Coruna (name of the arsenal which made them) used to have a reputation for mediocre metallurgical quality. I personally cannot comment, but if I were going to go to the trouble & expense of re-barreling a rifle, I would likely choose a German military (K98K) or commercial M98 , Belgian (FN), Czech VZ-24, or Yugo M24, 24/47, M48 or M48A origin. On the other hand, I have a VZ-24 that I "sporterized" & glass-bedded and it shot a witnessed & repeated 1" group with reloads on sandbags at 100 yds. I simply cannot justify rebarreling it...

i got it couple of days ago , i think it is coustom made mauser . it is sportorised , it has strong rifling , i hope it will shoot good i havint shot yet .
when i was checking the pictures of mauser i cant make a conclution

try posting some pics & i'll tell you what you have.
spanish mausers have a reputation for bad metallurgy but i've not seen that to be the case with any of them i've disassembled or any of them that people i know have disassembled. i've seen lug setback on every make of mauser there is and spanish mausers are no worse than any of the others.

if you decide it rebarrel it you can make your own action wrench for about $15.00 and the first couple of rifles i rebarreled i used wooden blocks in a very large bench vise for a barrel vise when i installed the barrel.
i now have a real barrel vise but i still use my home made $15 action wrench.
if the takeoff barrel isn't going to be used i remove it with a 4' long pipe wrench.

I took a picture of my barrel vise, the picture weighed 200 + lbs, wood blocks? I caught one set on fire then I was told I needed rosin, my response to the rosin advise 'not if that stuff is combustible'. 30,000 pounds will secure a barrel, a 4 foot extension on the action wrench with me hanging from the end of the extension gives me 1,200 foot pounds of torque, and, I have used 3 foot extensions that, in my opinion, put me in a strain. Love that sound of the press relaxing POW!!.

Then there are the torque impact wrenches, the type that are used with a big shop hammer, don't use that one very often. normally used after someone says something like 'there is nothing to it, all you need is etc., etc..' If I installed the barrel, wood blocks in barrel vise has a chance to work but when I start to remove a barrel from an ole military rifle, I expect the worst and am seldom disappointed.
