I was at my local swap meet yesterday and I found a sporterizer mauser in pretty nice shape. (I thought) The action was tight, the crown was nice, the rifling was nice and the bore was clean and brite. For $70, I couldnt pass it up. I took it home and threw a shell in it' and let one fly and discovered that the shell will not eject at all. It just stays stuck in the chamber. Upon pullin the bolt I noticed that the end of the blade that catches the shell is worn off. I know that those blades are available for purchase but I need to make sure I'm ordering the right part. Here are some specifics

caliber is 8mm
MAUSER crest with 1933 below it stamped on the top, front of the reciever
standard- modell 1924 on the left side of th reciever
In front of that is 30916 and 4 hallmarks that I cant make out
3903 on the bolt and safety
on the barrel is stamped 5 69
next to that is a "w" hallmark and a "v"
in front of the sight is a "p" a "1" and a "9"

If anyone can give me some specifics on model and country of origin, I'd greatly appreciate it. Some links to some part suppliers would be awesome as well. This is my first milsurp rifle purchase.

most 98 mauser parts are interchangeable. do you need the extractor ( rotating claw on the bolt that controls the feeding and extracting ) or the ejector (small blade that fits into the left side bolt release and bumps out the case when the bolt is fully back)
If you dont know, I'd be happy to meet you down at Mallins ( S Lanc. Co. ) sometime and check it over, go over it with the go/no-go gages etc.
Numrich or sarco is a good place for parts.

from Mauser Military Rifles of the world 4th ed (RW Ball) : "the standard modell short rifle was conceived & developed in 1924. However production did not commence until 1933......The alternate carbine was identical to, and the precursor of the Kar 98k...was offered commercially for police....as well as being sold worldwide. The men of the German Condor Legion that fought in Spain......were armed with the Standard Modell short rifle." Also Bolivia, Paraguay, the Chinese Nationalists, even the waffen SS ended up with these. Nice buy. how badly is the stock chopped?

The extractor is what I need. The shells stay in the chamber when you pull the bolt back. xerxes, I'd greatly appreciate someone who knows more than I do to take a look at it. I'll send you a PM so we can talk specifics.

That started out as a Standard Modell that had been badly treated. Somewhere along the line someone put on a K.98k stock and rebarrelled it. Any Model 98 extractor will work fine if that is the only problem. (When I see a broken extractor, I have to ask what caused it, and the answer can sometimes be bad news.)

yes, post '41 laminated stock from a 98k, and the rear site on the barrel looks like a VZ24. certainly was rebarreled. save the brass casing that you fired so I can look for any danger signs. Mausers are rebarreled all the time, so its not necessarily a bad rifle - but it should get a basic check over before you fire it again.
