I wrote one time before about this problem. What is happening is when I shoot my RIA 1911 A1 .45 acp , the slide stop wants to back out and it locks up the slide. It happens when firing. The slide moves all the way back and throws the empty, sometime after that before the slide can return the slide stop backs out and keeps the slide from returning completely and chambering the next round. All I have to do is simply press in on the slide stop and the slide chambers the round as normal. It doesn't happen on every shot but I would say 3 or 4 rounds out of every 7 rounds it does. I have tried different magazines and I have also tried different slide stops. No improvement. What really throws me though is that this never happened until I got around 300 rounds through it and now it has developed. I'm left handed so its not my hand hitting the slide stop from the way I grip. Can anyone tell me how to fix this or if you have experienced this and what you done to correct it? Thank you

the only thing I can think of, short of putting a retainer pin thru the opposite side, is to put it on an anvil and peen it while in the frame - VERY LITTLE at a time - should make it larger and thusly tighter.....

Get ahold of Ivan at RIA. These guns have a great warrantee. I had problems with mine and they fixed it for free. They even thru in a few free mags for my trouble.

Actually this is not that uncommon with lefties if the right hand index finger presses against the lever cross pin as part of a two handed hold.

Try shooting one handed, and if it does it again, I agree send it back to Ivan.

If its fine one-handed, than you need to adjust your grip so the index finger doesn't run along the frame and press on the pin, or grind the pin flush with the frame, which will make takedown require something to push the pin out, minor PITA, so I'd try adjusting your grip first.

I assume its not full lockback, but is catching on the half moon takedown cutout which will then complete the chambering when the lever is pressed down. If its full lock back, then send it back to Ivan or call and they will likely send you a replacement slide lock lever, I know they've had issues with these in the past.

Reading your post again, it seems you've tried alternate slide lock levers.

Whiteymin ,
I suppose you are installing the slide stop all of the way flush with the side of the pistol ?? There is a spring loaded ball that it must engage and I think that is what holds it in place ?? I use a small square end X-Acto knife blade to depress that ball while pushing the slide stop fully in . You might check to make sure the ball is present . At the opposite end is the thumb safety which also has a spring and ball .

I had that issue with a Springfield GI. My right hand thumb was "riding" the right-side of the slide-release pin, using it as a fixed contact point, and pushing just enough against it that it would lock up the slide. I changed my thumb position slightly and haven't had a problem since with any of my 1911s.

Check your grip position.
Check to make sure the release is fully inserted into the frame.
If those are not the issue, contact Ivan.
