need help with squirrels

I remember seeing a site where a guy made a squirrel trap out of a stun gun and some wire mesh with peanut butter in the center. I think it had some kind of pressure switch under the mesh so the tree rat would get fried when they stepped on it. I thought it sounded rather humorous.

Use to have a lot of squirrels and even cats that would make a nuisance around the house, then we got a dachshund. Haven't seen a single squirrel or cat in that backyard since.

Why shoot the little critters when all you have to do is staple some flyers in the vicinity with the following message?:

PETA would support you.

Aguila "Colibri" .22LR is almost completely silent. They are 20 gr projectiles launched at 500 FPS by the rimfire primer only. In my .22s, this round is exceptionally accurate.

killing a squirrel proved counterproductive for me ......20 of his family came to the wake & 10 stayed. gamo 880

Gamo break barrel Pellet rifle + Bushnell scope, nuff said.
things are silent, & accurate, & usually only cost $150.

i live about 100 ft from the city limit sign and it really stinks but i use a crosman powermaster 66 with open sights and i have killed more than i can count. you my want a scope because you can hit them from farther away. i have been shooting for a long time and i have killed them from 30 to 45 feet with 9 pumps

I killed plenty of squirrels as a kid with just a regular, Kmart Crossman 10 pump bb/pellet gun. Well aimed shots are the key. A .22 cal 10 pump I got later worked better, but really not by a whole lot. That one would also work on rabbits to though, so it became my "go to" air gun. AH, the memories. Used o wander the backyard for HOURS on end plinking squirrels. RARELY even manage to see any out in the woods when I go hunting in the woods anymore. You see a lot more around where there are people (thus more plentiful, often "free" food) than you do in the "wild".Maybe I need to get a new air gun and start doing my hunting in the nearby subdivision :D (just kidding, as I dont know wha tthe laws are here on airguns in city limits).

Before you use poison (or antifreeze) you had better read the Michigan laws concerning poisoning animals. I read it recently, and the one word that got my attention in a hurry is FELONY.

There are times where it may be legal, but for what you are suggesting, I doubt it is legal. Don't do something that might prevent you from every owning a firearm again, until you have researched this more thoroughly.

I have used a slingshot to get rid of pigeons, takes some practice. Also, I'm suprised no one mentioned paint ball guns. My friend freezes the balls and the paint does not stick so well. It just takes water to cleanup and a frozen paint ball will definatly take out a squirrel. I don't like poision for anything larger than insects(to dangerous to other animals).

There is a quicker way to deal with an infestation, though you have to be careful where you put the stuff.

Put a bowl of anti-freeze where only the squirrels can get it. Ethylene Glycol is highly poisonous and will do the trick. I've had to use it on an infestation of rats (idiot neighbor set a compost heap fifteen feet from four dumpsters in the city). The anti-freeze killed all of the rats over night and inadvertently got a couple of squirrels in the process.

ROTFLMAO!!! YOU OWE ME A NEW KEYBOARD!!!

I used to have a squirrel problem. They were dropping nuts on my car. A cheap .177 Daisy from Wally World did the trick, but I strongly recommend pellets. I was using .177 Copperhead BB's and .177 Copperhead pointed lead pellets. I had a pellet chambered and a full magazine(?) of BB's for follow up shots. The BB's lose accuracy with more pumps, but the pellets were good enough. I cleaned out the family of tree-rats for a season, then I had to learn the next generation.
tree rats are resilient little bastards though. I had to hit one squirrel on 3 separate occasions before he finally died. I dropped him 30ft out of a tree and he survived. Good hunting

I just sit in an upstairs window and shoot down from above with a Rem 511x and CB caps. One quick shot to the head and done for.

If you did not want to shoot them you could get a live trap and trap them then let them loose on the rifle range and do some quickdraw exercises with your 9mm.

*** this is not funny nor is it humaine in any way. Nor is it legal in most states. Then what happens when your neighbors dog or cat gets into it and the police show up on your door step to cuff and stuff your sorry azz for crulity to animals.

Antifreeze kills because when the ingredants are metabolized byt he animals body they turn into microscopic jagged chrystals that upon entering the Kidney basicly act like a paper shrreder and shread the kidneys.

I am sorry but that is so not High Road. Maybe we should feed you some antifreeze and see how you like it. If you want to do this Maybe you should do it to your family pet first then you can be there for the long painfull death of Fido. This happend to a family friends dog once.

Go to the zoo and ask for a bag of dry lion dung. Then sprinkle it around your property. Even big dogs will avoid your lawn! Good for all types of critters you dont want hanging around.

I have to say a Break Barrel .177 caliber pellet gun works GREAT on squirrels.

NOW im not saying I do it where I live. Actually with in the City limits where I live the fine and possible jail time for using an air rifle is MORE than when using a real gun.

BUT, ive seen squirrels drop where they stand with a .177 Pellet gun.

I have these in my back yard. Do I feed them too much protein?

Unless I miss my guess there are a whole lot of folks here advocating the breaking of game laws. The OP lives in Ohio and as such should obey the local game laws. Definately NOT The High Road!

Snares anyone?

They are cheap to make, effective, and do not alarm the neighbors.

A couple of trapping sites on the net will sell premade ones and give instructions on how to deploy them.

Squirrels are basically stupid and lazy. Lean a board against a tree and they will use it as a shortcut to climb the tree even if there are a few relatives hanging by snares from the board.

If you are worried about running foul of the law, see if your city council or local game ranger can't issue you some nuisance permits to remove the animals.

Live traps may give you limited milage, but are likely legal in your area. Look on the net for tricks for using them.

When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. While this is a gun forum, guns are not always the best solution for every problem.

Plus, inside city limits. Hunting may be prohibited, even if in season.

Help with squirrels

No need for anything other than pellet rifle, unless they look like this!

Chinese Help With Squirrels

Get one of the cheap Chinese .177-caliber pellet guns and a tin of pointed field pellets. The gun probably won't reach the 900 feet per second the ads claim, but no matter. The pellets will still knock down a squirrel (or rabbit). Later, if you decide you like the sport, you might want to spend $200 or $300 for a fancy air gun. Until then, why spend more than $40 or $50?
