I need your help with this one. I need to find an Xmas gift for my mom.

I need to find a very inexpensive (had to spend my extra money having a kidney stone removed....talk about things that hurt) .22 semi-auto
rifle.

It needs to be adult sized and I need to be able to buy it NEW preferably at Bass Pro, Dick's Sporting Goods, or Walmart because she (and her brother) sometimes go to the same gun store as me; and I'm sure one of the employees would ruin the surprise.

I hate to be a cheapskate on mom's gift but money is going to be tight this year and it's better than a card.

I looked on gunbroker for ideas and found a Mossberg Plinkster 702. I know it's not going to be awesome but are they okay?

Any other suggestions? (Even if it's not to waste my gun and buy something else.)

Sadly, I need to try and stay around $150 or less, if possible.

It's the thought that counts, right? (sigh) Thanks.

Wow, I was gonna suggest a ruger 10/22 but prices have gone waaaay up. When I bought one maybe 6-7yrs ago I'm pretty sure I paid 100-150. But now according to the walmart website it's 247.

Used isn't an option? There are a lot of these out there and I'm sure you could find one in real good shape.

LOL @ Jenning .22 pistol. Just because I'm a tattooed weirdo doesn't mean I hate my mom.

I'd like to get new because I don't like giving used guns as gifts and
I don't have time to fool around with gunbroker. Plus all the local FFLs charge stupidly high transfer fees.

Yeah the 10/22 was my first thought but you've seen the going rate.

Thank and keep the help coming guy (and girls).

Xmas is an abbreviation don't get all worked up over things.

I work usually overtime around the holidays so I need to get my shopping done in the next week or two.

There is no Academy store near me. My choices are pretty much the three I listed for big box detailers. Thanks again.

I'd say look at the Marlin 60 models at Wally world. They're usually between $130-160 if I recall. It's a great little tube fed plinker.

I bought my Remington 597 from Dick's about 2 years ago around Christmas time and they had it on sale for $130. Last weekend they were asking $170 for them, but they might run a sale closer to Thanksgiving.

My .02 :)

Try budsgunshop.com They have several .22 rifles in stock for 160.00 or less. I think with free shipping also. Then the FFL fees will be the only other concern. I searched rifles then .22 cal and there were about 5 pages. Good luck.
BTW I have purchased several firearms from Buds and had really good deals from them.

Well if a Revolver would work, I've heard decent things about the Heritage Arms SA .22 6 shooter...

Not semi-auto, but in the $150 range, a solid .22

A nice sa revolver would be awesome too!

Can I get it at Bass Pro? Transfers are a PITA and risk ruining the surprise.

I'll check to see if any ffl in my area wants to not charge the regular rip off high fee for a transfer, just in case.

Head on over to Dicks and check out the specials. I picked up a scoped Remington .22 there a year back and it was $150.

There is a Dick's Sporting Goods down the street from my work. I think I'll swing by there in the next couple of days and see what they have in stock.

If anyone would like to volunteer for a recon mission in the Wal-Zone, and report back any findings here you will receive the thanks and praise of THR.

The description says "scaled down" do they just mean the caliber or is the gun "scaled down" like the Ruger bearcat?

2 years ago I got a mossberg 702 plinkster for $80 with 1000 rounds at $20 at dicks:what: the day after Thanksgiving. It has been the best gun I EVER OWNED! Last year just the rifle was $100 (CAMO) ,probably the same this year.:D
