Hey Guys and Girls I was looking for a little help with a couple guns that I own. Im looking for some more information about them maybe a bit oh history. As I am just getting into hand guns. My father gave me an old revolver that is a blackpowder 36 cal. Im not real sure who makes it but it appears to have something like FLLIPIETTA on the side and it says it was made in Italy. I can read on the side of the gun:pAT Sept 10 1850. I know it is old but was looking for some help where to find information on this wonderful find.

http://www.pietta.it/index_2.htm this is the homepage, they are nice blackpowder guns, italian made replicas of a few old west guns, i belive as long asit is a steel frame gun you can get a conversion cylinder to fire 38 long colts in the 36 and 45 long colts in the 44, as long at it is in good enough condition to shoot they are great fun. pietta may be able to tell just how old the gun is if it has a serial #

It sounds like they put Colts original patent date on it. The 51 Navy was actually introduced in 1850. Collectors like to assign their own dates to these things. Like the 1849 pocket model actually came out in 1850 and the the collectors called the Pocket Navy a model of 1853 though it was later discovered they came out late 61 or early 62.
If you look for a pair of letters in a box somewhere on the frame of the gun, we can tell you the date of manufacture.

on the side of the gun there are a couple of pairs of letters. There is one box that says BC and there is another set of letters that says PN

Where can I fin that information. This appears to be much older than a 1993. Is there a website to maybe trace the serial number? Thanks.
