Just starting to load for a 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser and need the COL for the Sierra 100 grain Varminter bullet.

Thanks

COL is not manual specific, it is rifle specific. Here is what Accurate Powderrs says about COL.
It is important to note that the SAAMI “COL” values are for the firearms and ammunition manufacturers industry and must
be seen as a guideline only.
The individual reloader is free to adjust this dimension to suit their particular firearm-component-weapon combination.
This parameter is determined by various dimensions such as 1) magazine length (space), 2) freebore-lead dimensions of
the barrel, 3) ogive or profile of the projectile and 4) position of cannelure or crimp groove.

If you must have Sierra's COL here it is, for their 100gr HP(only one listed) 2.850".

Thanks Steve, that's the dimension I wanted.

Just playing around with an old Swede I bought 30 years ago, and did not want to invest in another modified "Chamber-All" case to measure the exact case head to ojive dimensions in the Swede chamber (got six of those modified cases now).

Now that you have given me a starting point for the hollow-point bullet, I'll do the old magic marker trick and keep the bullet .020 off the leades in my chamber (my Sinclair ojive gauge doesn't have a 6.5 hole in it either).

Thanks again.

MKL,

I shoot Sierra 140 grain MatchKings in a Swede rifle made in 1900. I am currently seating the bullets out as far as the magazine allows, and am still off the rifling. The free bore in these old rifles is tremendous. Good luck!

I agree, I doubt one can keep a 6.5 100 gr bullet in the case mouth and be anywhere near the leade in a old M96.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like I can use the magazine as an OAL gauge. That makes things simple. :D

A good rule of thumb is to seat bullets at least one caliber deep into the case or about .264" for the Swede. best-o-luck
