Me and my brother recently bought a gun each from a personal add. My brother bought a .22 Marlin for $50 and I bought a 1970 336 Marlin in a 35 remington. It has the 1970 emblem in the stock marking the 100 year anniversary I guess. I payed $175, and im wondering what its worth. I read somewhere that its very desirable. Also, what kind of game am I looking at being able to get here. I have a 30-06 as well and I need a gun for some black bear, I hear the Marlin will do but I was thinking the 30-06 would be better. Thoughts and opinions in its value and what game? Thanks. Ill try to get some pics up of it once I have a different computer, the one im using is the old slow one.

That's a great gun you have there. It's probably a 336RC (Regular Carbine). The price you paid was good. They generally run $175 - $250. The 35Rem is one of my favorite cartridges, but I'm also a Marlin lever gun nut. I use mine for deer and hogs under 150 yds. Hop over to Marlinowners forum and you'll find everything you ever wanted to know about them.

Enjoy your gun.

Black bear ?? Here in the NE many a bear has been taken with a 35 Rem .If you ask those who have used both 30-30 and 35Rem they will tell you that while they look the same on paper the 35 is significantly better .And if you want to be more serious use Buffalo Bore 220 grain load -very impressive penetration !!! It's too bad Marlin doesn't market the 35 more actively ,it's certainly proven to be a great deer and bear cartridge over the years.

dont think id hunt with 35 rem.
8-12 inches drop at 100 yards. i just bought a remmy 760 pump in 35 rem rechambered to 35 whelen. havent shot it yet, but the stats look pretty good. you might consider having the same done to your 35 cal.
is it lever or bolt?call me stupid.just dont call me.

You got the wrong cartridge. The 35Rem factory stuff shoots pretty mild 1950-2000fps with 200gr bullets. Still pretty flat out to 150yds. The new LE gummy bullets are like 2200fps I think. I handload for several 35Rems and 2400fps with 180gr Speers are obtainable.

I gaurantee you teh 35 is a deer killer.

My buddy just called and he dropped a 250# boar hog tonight with his 35Marlin guide gun. Can't get better proof than that.

Weeb, if you bought a rifle in .35 Whelen, take a look at the cartridge. Now, look at the length compared to a .35 Remington. Not to be rude, but this is like the third post where people have explained to you that a .35 Whelen will not function in a Winchester '94/Marlin 336 length action.

This thread concerns someone with a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. A great rifle. As to the comment, "the drop is 8 to 12 inches at 100 yds." The drop depends on the range it is sighted for. If it (or any rifle) is sighted at 100 yds., the drop is ZERO.

In the NE the 35 is well respected. Very good brush gun. They tend to hold better values than the 30-30's. A functional rifle in a good caliber for that price, can't beat it.
