I want to build a bolt gun that I can take to the range and shoot all day comfortably, could take some relatively long range shots (+/-400 yds) with, and one that would make a good coyote hunter.

Plan was to start with a Remington 700 action and go from there. Was planning on 22-250 for the caliber with a heavy barrel, "tacticool" stock, and muzzle break.

Today I was offered a Tikka T3 hunter in 25-06 on trade for a pistol I'm selling and it has got me to thinking. Don't know much about them other than they are made (?)/ imported (?) by berreta and have a sako (?) action on them.

I like what I've read about Sakos so it has got me interested.

But I'm wondering about the 25-06 caliber. If its as (or more) suited for what I want.

Also is the Tikka as good of an action as the model 700? Can I get barrels? Aftermarket stocks?

If anyone has modded one of these rifles, please chime in with specs. Pics would be nice. Are there any sites that cater to the t3?

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Not much point in modding them. They already shoot better than a lot of customs IME. Custom fit stock would be the only thing to upgrade IMO. The triggers and barrels are already excellent.

Tikka is one of the riffles I wouldn't mess with, not to many aftermarket parts for it, only few actually 2 places which makes custom stocks for them one cost like 500 and another 1500 bucks, and not many gunsmiths willing to work with one I guess they hate their recoil lug ;-)

I own a Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5x55. I can't tell you anything about mods but I can tell you it's one fine rifle.
