Anyone here ever rebarreled a Tikka T3? What barrel brand did you choose?

I have a T3 Hunter (walnut stock and blued barrel) in 22-250 that doesn't get shot much. Thought about swapping barrels or trading it to something that I would shoot more often in a deer size caliber.

I've looked at this type situation. Quite honestly, I really wanted to re barrel but it's just too expensive to make sense. You'll have maybe $450-600 in the barrel alone, and the rifle is actually worth less when you're done

You can sell your rifle and buy a new one cheaper. Unfortunate, but that is just the way it works. If you're gonna keep it forever and the factory trigger is really great and the stock is great, maybe it's worth it to you. Just be ready to take a big hit if you sell it

Look at it this way......you can get a new Tikka, Winchester, or CZ for what about an installed barrel would cost

The only viable option I can see is if you can find a take off with low or zero round count at a fair price

Viking;

I had it done when I built my custom left handed 6.5 Swede on the Tikka action. The Tikka barrel threads are, I was told by my gunsmith, the same as Winchester & Ruger, and I'd think he'd know. I used a Lilja barrel for the project and couldn't be happier. It's a medium weight sporter, standard contour, and once load work-up was done, shoots very well indeed. I had the chamber reamed to conform to a load with a Sierra GameKing 140 grain bullet seated fairly long, but still within the magazine limit.

Accuracy is consistently sub .500 with it's load & if I'm doing my part. The absolute best it's ever done is a three-shot one hundred yard group at .261", which about stopped my heart when I saw it.

Unless you are really attached to the rifle, you would come out far better by trading or selling it and buying a rifle in the caliber you want.

Decisions, decisions.........I think I will leave it as is and sell or trade it.

kinda fun when you get those. I have two rifles with match grade barrels. Each is capable of shooting .4's. Then again, my factory stock CZ in .204 is close to that with handloads

You can go to Benchrest Central or Accurate Shooter and find guys selling custom rifles for half or less than what they have in them
