I picked up a used PPK/S at the local shop today. Looks used, but not abused other than needing a good cleaning of the internals. I would be interested in finding out when the gun was manufactured. SN #155xxx, stainless, 380 ACP, marked "Made in W. Germany" and "Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do" on left side of slide. Any info appreciated.

They have a PPK/S forum!!-

My daughter has had one of the Bama Nation firearms since
January of '95; and has never had a problem with any type
of ammo being fired from it. I guess she got a good one?

I had a friend who drove a Yugo for three years without it ever seeing the inside of a shop, too. Statistical anomalies abound in the universe. ;)

Interestingly, S&W has made some very good improvements to the PPK since they took over production, from the extended tang to an improved ejector and extractor. It's cleverly labelled PPK/S-1 on the frame. How cute. ;)

Workmanship and attention to detail suffers remarkably in the S&W made PPK/S1. The older 'Bama models had their faults but fit and finish on the one I had was a lot better than the newer S/1's I've seen. I had every edge on the pistol "melted" because they were so sharp that you could cut yourself on the trigger guard or the edge of the slide. Not to mention slide bite if you choked up on the grip while shooting, I think some called it Walther Tracks. Mine hated most JHP's and preferred WIN Silver Tips to anything else. I found that the polished stainless finish scratched very easily and my shooting buddy left his PPK/S in a leather holster in his pick-ups glove box for a month or so and it corroded big time from humidity and moisture retained by the leather holster.
An old axioum, " The two happiest days in a Walther PPK/S owner's life are the day he bought it and the day he could persuade someone else to buy it from him." I refused to sell mine to anyone I knew and I warned the gent that bought it that she was fussy about what you fed her.

I've also got one of those "Anomalies"....

How many anomalies does it take before it becomes common? :)
