I am thinking about replacing the Mossy 590 plastic safety "button" for the metal version I just acquired. However, I noticed that a one-way screw is sitting between me and the current task.

Does anyone know what size of screw this is so that I may purchase the correct one-way/safety screwdriver, if necessary? Thanks.

The size is 6-32 and the length is about 5/16. You can buy a 6-32 1/2" button head screw from your local hardware store and shorten it a little.

To remove the one way screw use a small thin driver bit and bare down hard and turn. Try different bits and see which one you can get one too bite the ears.

You can also sharpen an old screw driver or bit. Put thick tape on the receiver around the screw so if you slip you won't damage the receiver. Do it with the bolt back so the detent ball won't fall into the receiver. Brownells sales the Mossberg standard metal safeties. The Vang safety is very nice and it comes with the hardware.

I bought mine from Brownells, but it was their "modified" version with an exaggerated thumb "lever." As far as any replacement parts (ball, spring, plate), I guess Ill just have to go the Brownells route should it become necessary.

Anyway, thanks for the advice....Ill give it a shot.
