I am going to be buying a .308 caliber bolt action rifle soon. I have researched, held, and shot plenty of them. For various reasons, I have it narrowed down to 2 or 3 models. Kimber being one of them.
Question: Does anyone have any information they could pass on regarding Kimber's accuracy? Specifically in .308.
I shot a friends Kimber years ago and really liked it. Sako/Tikka, Remington, Savage, Weatherby et.al. all have fine weapons, and guarantee MOA (With premium ammo of course) but I don't have anything from Kimber.

I really don't want this thread to turn into a "You should buy an XYZ brand because it's the better than a Kimber," thing. That can be another thread for another day.

Anyone...............

While I dont have any experience with the 84M in 308 Win specifically, I do own a 8400 in 300 WSM. They are pretty much the same other than the M84 is a bit lighter. With my handloads it shoots 3 shot groups at about an inch which is fine with me, it's a light weight hunting rifle.

As with any brand of whatever, I have heard some say they are junk, inaccurate etc. But for me, this is my go to rifle and have hunted all over with it including the frozen tundra of Canada and the NWT and it's never let me down.

Topped with a Swarovski in Leupold bases/rings it's 7lbs 2 oz.

I've got a Kimber 84M Classic Select in .308. I absolutely LOVE it!!! Here's what it can do with factory ammo!

I topped mine with a Leupold VX3 2-8x36mm. It looks really nice on this rifle and functions great with low mounts. It is a very comfortable rifle to shoot with the thick Pachmeyer recoil pad. Far more comfortable than my pre-64 Winchester 94 .30-30 with the steel buttplate. Super light and easy to carry all day.

Any questions? ;)

Most people can not shoot well enough to get all the accuracy out of the M84. It is very accurate as exemplified in the above targets.

dubbleA, do you prefer it to your Coopers?

As a general hunting rifle, yes I pefer it over my Coopers due to it's light weight, cartridge/caliber and magazine capacity. In the accuracy department, the Coopers will shoot circles my 8400. I mostly punch paper with the Coopers, while the Kimber gets to hunt.

Bought one of the Montana's in 308 about 3 years ago. There is a learning curve to master shooting a 5 lb. rifle. It took several range trips before I was shooting it well enough for me to be happy. The quality is first rate and the stock is the best of the factory synthetics.

Once mastered I don't have any trouble keeping 3 shots right at 1". Sometimes a hair less, sometimes a hair more. It is not the most accurate rifle in my safe, but it is 2 lbs lighter than anything any more accurate.

+1 on all above posts. I had an 84M in .308 and loved it. Very accurate, but it liked only 150 gr factory ammo. FWIW, my boys got a hold of my bolt and dinged up the handle, Kimber sent me a new one free of charge, no questions asked.

Thanks for the responses so far guys.
Sounds like the quality of manufacture is there. The weight seems to be right for hunting purposes. Accuracy @ 1 MOA(Ish) with factory loads.
I think with any firearm, it takes getting used to (Learning curve) as jmr40 mentioned. Especially with a 5 pound something rifle. Good thing it comes with the Pachmayr decelerator. I have to imagine it still gives a bit of a shove anyway. My main purpose is to hunt, and this winter, to hunt elk in the Rocky Mountains. I'm pretty sure I don't want to be lugging around a 10 pound rifle all day.
Thanks for the pics dubbleA and BluegrassDan, they look like very nice firearms.

Remember, you're talking about a 308 with the same weight as a Ruger 10/22.

You could have shot a 100 different 308 rifles, but unless you have shot one of the Kimbers, then experience will likely not transfer.

I have a Kimber Longmaster Classic in .308. It is a beautiful rifle. I have no idea what it will do as I have never fired 3 consecutive rounds without either a misfire or a having an empty cartridge stuck in the chamber.
