i am new to 223 reloading and today i picked up some hornady 55 grain fmjbt

i have some H335 powder on hand and can not find load data in any of my manuals

anybody have any data, possibly from hornady manual

thanks guys

It is a Hodgdon powder, I would be very surprised if there was not data on their site.
www.hodgdon.com

Don't cry if they don't show a recipe for the Hornady bullet, one 55 gr .224" bullet is pretty much like the next. Just don't start at the maximum.

Hey John, your right, the Lyman starts at 24.3, goes to 27gr?

In the Lyman, the test rifle was an AR15 with 1-7" twist and a universal receiver 1-20' twist.. The Hornady book used a Rem 700, 26' barrel 1-12' twist.

I wonder what gives??

Nothing gives.

Different companies, with different ballistics labs, using different guns, and different pressure test equipment, at different atmospheric conditions, arrive at different pressures, and different Start & MAX loads.

Simple as that.

thanks for the responces,
i did look at the hogdon site and seen the fmj 55 grain load data but they were not boat tail
should i take this as a lesson learned that a fmj and a fmjbt will use the same data

thank you for all of your help

Sounds like you need a reloading manual or 3.

Reloading without them is REALLY NOT SMART.

Please stay safe!

i do have manuals and feel confidant when i am using the published bullet with the charges given in the manual
i have read through extensivly in the bullet sections and understand the different types of bullets
i dont understand how different bullets relate in loads, in other words my Lyman manual only has one 55 grain bullet load, it is a 55 gr jacketed spt

will that same load data work for the hornadt fmjbt- both are 55 grain and jacketed

or do i need to find load data with a fmjbt bullet of the same weight , not necassarily the same brand

i hope you understand my question and can shed some light, i have read and read my manuals and they really do not explain this

thank you

Yes, you can use SP-BT data for a FMJ-BT of the same weight.

A starting load is a starting load.

You ALways work up to the MAX load, regardless of whether you have the exact same bullet or not.

thank you for yor help

i do have one other ?, i loaded 1 round at the start weight and the coal from the data was 2.260
when i seated the bullet at the above coal i had not made it to the cannelur of the bullet, to make it to the canelure my coal is 2.235, at that i am just barely into the cannlure
that being said this will raise pressure , should i reduce the starting charge a little

thank you again for your help

No.

Seat to the cannuure and work up the load from that length.

Never reduce a starting load lower then it already is reduced.
Thats why it's the starting load so you can safely make other adjustments, such as a minor OAL change.
