I have been playing with loads for my 300 weatherby mag and can't seem to get it where I want it. I've looked in all the books. Anybody have a good load that you've worked out?

Get "where you want it" how?

Velocity, accuracy, bullet selection, ????

The Weatherby rifles have a large amout of free-bore, and long seating as far as the magazine will allow should help accuracy.

Other then that, I don't know "where you want it".

Could you be more specific as to what problems you want to address?

I use Win 780 with SGK 180gr bullets, Weatherby brass and Remington mag primers. I'm at work and don't have my load data with me but I'm amost sure it 81gr. Please do your own research before using this load. Our rifles are not the same so results may vary. So your going to have to out what yours likes.

What components are you using? Bullet weight/type, Powder, etc. As RC stated, we will need more info in order to point you to the right direction.

I have tried IMR 4350 also IMR 4831 and both loads with from 150gr Nosler ballistic and 165 gr sierra also 180 gr sierra in boattail and flatbase bullets. I also tried a couple of different kinds of hogdons powder and couldn't even get close. I have federal 215 primers and cci 250 magnum primers. I am just looking for a very accurate load. thank you

I have had great success with RL22 with both 150gr and 180 gr Partitions and Barnes X. Try seating your bullet just off the lands and work up from Min charge.

IMR 7828 has proven to be a great powder in the belted magnums.

I agree with lgbloader on Rel-22 also.

I would like to caution you on using lighter, regular ballistic tip bullets in the Weatherby. They have a tendency to fragment at the velocities that the 300 Wby is capable of producing, if used on game, especially under 200yds.
A good premium bullet such as the Nosler Partition is what you need for game.

BirdDog66;

You need to be very specific. We don't know the context or point of your question unless you WRITE it down. We can't read your mind.....

Are you looking for accuracy, velocity, ect ???

Remember that accuracy is sometimes difficult to obtain with the Weatherby rifles. (ie:freebore)
3-shot 1.5" groups are the norm, and realistically all you really need with the general use of these rifles. (ie: big-game hunting).

I've not got much experience with the .300wbymag, but have a good deal of experience with the .257wbymag as well as the .300RemUltMag.

I also have extensive data for the .300WbyMag, but we need specifics.......

Have you chonographed your loads ?????
Set up of chrono's ?????
Barrel length, mfg, history of your rifle/barrel ?????
Brass, bullets, primers, age of powder, charge wt's, ect.,ect, ect................

Yes to what has been said. Be careful about seating out to the lands as the pressure will go thru the roof if you get the bullet up angainst the lands. Heavier bullets 180 or more will probably help accuracy. Is your barrel glass bedded? Is it free floated? Is your trigger good. Remember that is you have a rifle that is not accurate you can only find the best load for that rifle. It will not shoot with a set up 700 no matter the ammo.

l11zse82.jpg Expect to tweak the powder charge a little since your gun probably isn't going to like exactly the same charge mine does.
