Need M1 Garand Info

Ok folks need some Info for the two count'em two M1 Garands and a SKS I bought today at a Gun Show. The guy there gave me a story and sometimes you wonder about those stories but he told them well so I bought the guns. One Garand has chrome hardware with a Citadel ss barrel dated 1993, it is a Springfield built in 1942, this gun also has a stock which I have found out is a Winchester stock with WRA/GHD stamped in the side of it. Beautiful Gun -- I was also told that it was a chambered .308 and used in Honor Guard ceremonies for the Navy. (love those stories)-The other one has the dated barrel and serial numbers that match the date on the barrel so I assume they are correct it is 30.06. Both are in great shape -- gave 16 and a half bills for the two Garands along with a SKS that has Georgia VT stamped on the barrel. Any info on the three would be much appreciated as I am just starting with the Old rifle collection -- last week bought a British Enfield - Jack

Sounds like you got a decent deal, depending on actual condition of your rifles.

Congrats on the purchase. I don't know enough about them to comment otherwise, so I'll leave that to others, but I just got my first Garand this week also.

Honor Guard ceremonies

If they fired blanks, check the barrel. Many were seriously damaged by the use of blanks without any maintenance.

Thanks for the info -- especially about the blanks -- was told they came from an estate sale. Since I am new to site will post some pics if I can figure out the in and outs of the site. Thanks again will check the barrel -- any chance this thing is a .308 ? My understanding Garands were 30.06.

Take 'em to a good local gunsmith to have them looked over. He should be able to give you a bill of health on them.

Many Garands were rebearreled to the 308 caliber. I have on myself. The Navy reportedly used some but they seem to be high priced collectors if original. The barrel date makes that not possible.

I would say that a competent gunsmith should check it for you if you are not sure.
