I have always enjoyed having a refrigerator with photos or magnets on it. I think it makes it interesting and gives me something to look at. I now own a stainless steel refrigerator so magnets no longer stick to it and the old lady likes the clean look.

So I am thinking of getting some magnets and such for my gun safe. I know most of you may think it is cheesy or corny but I would like it. I do not want to stick stickers on it because I want to be able to remove them easily.
I already have standard magnets to hang photos and such.

I am looking for a good source for magnets online. I am looking for any type of magnet but particularly gun related magnets. I found http://www.zazzle.com/1911+magnets and http://www.cafepress.com/+1911_100th_birthday_magnet,538051290 but it seems like they don't have a whole lot of gun related magnets.

I use computer hard drive magnets to hold guns in my safes. (the duct tape is just to keep the gun from being possibly scratched)

You can make magnets do a lot of cool things. I'm working a project with magnets right now.

Did you know that there are permanent magnetic materials available that can pull with 700+ pounds of attractive force from a hockey-puck sized piece of material?

M2 Carbine -I really like the way you "hooked up" your autos onto the botom of the shelf. It's a great way to utilize otherwise wasted space very economically. Next trip to town I'll be getting some of those coated cup hooks. Thanks!.....Doc

PS - Don't you worry that you might bump one of your revolvers when removing a long gun from the safe causing it to fall onto other guns and damaging either or both?

I bought some 500 S&W cases with magnets inserted into the open end a few years ago at a gun show.

They're holding up pictures of my son on my safe.

Why don't you buy some of these and push them into some high polish nickel 500 S&W cases.

I just bought a 10-pack of neodymium magnets from Harbor Freight yesterday for less than $2. I think it was closer to $1. (item #67488) They are a roughly 1/4" in diameter and stupid-strong.

No.
It can't be seen from that picture but the safe is packed full and most of the guns are positioned very close together. So every time I remove or replace a gun I have to take extra care.

Oh hey now! That's a great idea. I have some hella strong little round magnets (I can't pronounce what they're made from) and will give that a try.

You can get sheet magnets. Put your stickers on there and cut them out. Just another option.

You can have photos made into magnets at Walmart as well. You can go to their website, download the photos you want and order them online.

I am frankly stunned that there is such a market for magnets.
Go figure.
M2,I concur that is a great way to use limited space in your gun safe.
By the way, what holds that large metal box in place as the lip runs underneath the shelf??

As others have pointed out, you have lots of options for flat "pizza delivery" style magnets. The empty 500 S&W idea is pretty cool. (You could even just epoxy a magnet on the outside of almost any cartridge and make a nifty fridge magnet.) Another source for non-flat gun themed magnets would be lapel/hat pins. I see alot of these for different guns. They are about the size of a US quarter and painted black (or made of pewter.) Darn near anything can be a fridge magnets if the item isn't too heavy for the magnet or epoxy attaching it to the magnet. All you have to do, is be a little creative.

That's a lock box that's built in the top corner of the safe. Doesn't make sense that if someone could get in the safe that they couldn't get in that box but that's the way it came.

This is the door of a home made steel safe I made years ago. The hard drive magnets are handy for hanging guns in this safe.

Dumb question?

But doesn't the constant contact with the powerful magnets magnetize the guns??

Personally, I think that would be a bad thing.
They would hold unto small particles of steel that naturally wear off during use.
Where they would stay stuck and act as grinding compound.

I have had knives that somehow became magnetized, and steel dust from sharpening is hard to get off of them.

I haven't found that to be a problem. That P38 has been on the magnet for a few years. Although a small part of the slide is slightly magnetized it won't hold a small paper clip but the area might attract very small bits of metal.

You make a good point and personally I will take note of that in future gun cleanings.
