Need more insurance than just my renters

I went through the process with state farm and it required serial numbers and photographs for the additional personal article insurance. I did not think it was necessary until we inherited extty property and our modest collection, with my given values, is an additional ~$300/yr on top of a renter's policy.

The NRA offers insurance for firearms. If the value is over $2500 for an individual item, it needs to be described but that does not include the serial number.

The NRA insurance is ok, if you don't own a lot of firearms. In my case the NRA premium would be about 4X what I pay through Eastern.

You need to look into Eastern. If nothing has changed it's $140/year for $40k of coverage.

OP here. Finally back after a lot of traveling. I appreciate all the replies, everyone.

I will be taking more measures on security when I get a house, but for now I can' do much about it. I reinforce the door of my apt when I am home, or at least before going to bed. This should be my last year renting, I've got a very solid down payment ready. In fact I have been trying to scope up a fixer upper, but the ones with semi descent bones sell so fast and I am inexperienced and slow with my research and decision making perhaps.

Based on the suggestions I will be contacting Eastern and Collectibles Insurance Services for quotes. As I noted, my basic coverage for guns on the renter's policy is $1,500 and I am further past that limit than I want to be. I am sure the insurance I need will be cheap. Gun wise I have 7 handguns, with several being basic m&p 9s, s&w model 64, and a couple of $1,200 cz customs. Then a generic 22lr, a couple of mid range ar15, and rem 700 adl. Then plenty of mags, although I think my insurer said magazines would not count against $1,500 renter's policy gun limit.

I don't get your point. Replacement means the insurance company has agreed to pay you enough to replace the item with a similar one. Every year, they bump up the value of my house to a level high enough to rebuild. However, there is no limitation on what I do with the money. If my house gets destroyed, I can use the insurance payout to rebuild in the same location, use some or all of it to build or buy elsewhere, or have a hell of a vacation in Las Vegas leaving myself homeless.

You'd better read your policy. Retired 10 years ago, so things may have changed, but personal property claims were paid on ACV immediately, then the difference was paid after you replaced the item and filed the receipt with the adjuster. Replacement cost on totally destroyed homes was handled in a similar way, but partial losses (e.g. roof destroyed) were settled as payments to the insured and repair facility (and mortgagee when over certain dollar amounts).

I also use State Farm for my insurance needs. I priced extra gun/collectible insurance through them and the cost would more than double my home owners insurance policy yearly. It wasn't just firearms. Normally when you list descriptions and serial numbers, you are insuring for a specific stated value if lost for any reason. Years ago I had a homeowners claim after a burglary in my home. No firearms stolen, but I lost a lot of camera gear. Even with the deductible it was worth doing for me. That said, I had one firearms stolen and I reported it to the police but did not turn in a claim on my insurance. All told on that deal, I ate about a 2,000 loss. I went the safe route and in about a year, the cost was about what I would have paid SF.
