Hi guys,

I need a new mag spring since mine has been compressed from loaded for a long time and has gotten weak.

I was looking at Wolff's springs, but they only offer a "Standard Length" spring.
I have the Rem 870 Express "Home Defense" model with the 6+1 cap. It looks like this spring was meant for the original 4 or 5 shot models...

My question is, do I need a different spring, or will this one work?

Thanks
Chris

I am not saying your spring is not weak. I am saying keeping modern coil springs compressed does not weaken them, at all. Cycling the springs will, over time, weaken them, but we are talking many thousands of cycles.
Older flat springs experienced much much higher levels of stress in the material in order to function, and they could and did lose strength by being kept compressed.

Have you noticed any issues with the spring? Springs get weakened, as mentioned above, by working them - constant tension doesn't do it. If there is no problem, you should be good to go. It is advisable to get a spare as they aren't expensive. You might want to call Wolff and see what they recommend for your particular set-up

Wolff shows two different springs on their website:

32710 REM 870 12GA 3&5 SHOT XP MAG SPRING
32712 REM 870 12GA 6&7 SHOT XP MAG SPRING

It looks like you need the second option, #32712 .

But I'm in the same camp as the other replies; if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Guys...it sounds like the OP has a "tired" spring.

To the OP-

Based on what Ive seen, Wolff does indeed offer what you seek. If you cannot locate this spring online, give them a call. It would be worth it (I personally have 10 of these in reserve for various shotguns).

I replace springs annually as part of PM. I think of it as incentive to spend more time on the range so I don't feel silly swapping out a fresh spring ;)

OP - Bad Hammer has directed you to the proper Wolff spring. I've used that, as well as the Wilson springs and they alll work fine:

Thanks guys.

The actual problem is that the spring will not feed the last shell to the stop, it just kinda "hangs" like an extra 1/2 shell is there.

Might be gunk or corrosion is hanging up the magazine follower. It is not uncommon for sweat from the hands to cause this in the first part of the magazine if it isn't cleaned regularly.
