I'm relatively new to the forums and am in the market for a new semi-auto in .45 acp. I currently own a full size baby eagle in 9mm, which i really like. The two guns I have been considering in .45 are the cz97 and springfield 1911 mil-spec. I am leaning towards the cz because it is the same design as my current gun and I figure the ergonomics would be the same and it would be easy switching back and forth between the two. I would like everyones opinions and experiences on these two, to aid in my gun buying decision. I would also like opinions on any other full size steel .45's in the $5-700 dollar range.
thanks

Hi,
I agree about the following the same design and ergonomics. I have done that with S&W. The CZ has a long and very good reputation. It is your call we are not shooting the pistol you are. Have fun.

Why go with something similar to what you already have? I say go with a 1911 type. I like our SA 1911A1

I recommend shooting a 1911 and then making a decision. I like the 1911 platform, so I that is what I would go for. Springfield has a good reputation as well as CZ.

I shot a Kimber 1911 the other day and I didn't really care for how it felt but it did shoot really well, I guess i will have to shoot the cz before i make up my mind.

Shoot a CZ97. It will knock your socks off.

I fiddle around in matches shooting a lot of different guns. When I shoot the 97 I either win or finish second. When I shoot other guns I win or finish ninth or 10th...

im sorry you didnt enjoy the kimber as much as i enjoy mine =/
i think its a great gun and definately on the high end of 1911's in terms of quality and beauty. im wondering what size the kimber was that you shot. maybe it was too small? the 3" ultra carrys are pretty small...

Shoot a CZ97, shoot any 1911, shoot a XD45, shoot a Glock 21/36, and then shoot a HK45. After doing all that, come back and tell us what gun you decided to purchase. Have fun and good luck!

1911 all the way!!!

Unless it does not work for you. Shoot them both and then decide.

Don't let other people spend your money.

If you do, buy a Colt!

i say get the 1911, shoot it and own it for a while and you will see why people love them and reccomend them so much. i have a sa 1911, and i love it.

Love my CZ 97B. If the grip is a bit too much for DA, try replacing the grips with Hogue rubber wrap around grips for the CZ75B. You have to place them in hot, boiling water for about 1 minute, dry, and quickly attach to one side of the 97B, and then stretch to fit the other side, but it makes for a better, smaller grip. Great gun.

1911, 1911, 1911. I own a Springer and a S&W commander...love them both to pieces. Don't buy something because its like something you already own...variety is the spice of live:D

My advice would be to get a 1911. You already have a modern DA 9mm auto, so why go for the same thing in a different caliber? Part of the pleasure of shooting is to experience the difference in function and feel of various styles of weapons.

A word of caution, though. The 1911s can prove to be an addiction for many, so be cautious in your approach. ;)

I don't know a Baby Eagle from a kick in the shin, but I know I want all of my carry/competition guns to function the same way. Do you thumb the safety DOWN to fire on a Baby Eagle? If so, go with a 1911. I would not have/use guns that have a backward safety mechanism. I need my gun functions to be instinctive. I think the terminology is "manual of arms." I want them all to be similar.
