I have a chance to pick up an S&W 60-12, .38 spl +p made in 1998 (pre-lock) for $469 + $15 shipping. I've wanted a mdl 60 for a long time WITH a hammer. I like the 60-9's which are .357 but I'll never be doing any shooting w/.357s in this size revolver as I have a Ruger SP101 w/3" barrel for that.

I'm buying this out of state and have only seen very detailed pics. Looks like it's just a hair under LNIB due to swirls in the stainless but still very very very nice!

This will be IWB carry as I have a 642 for pocket.

I've see pre-lock models 60s on-line from $450-$500 lately. So what do you think?

Anyone have the 60-12? And if you do, does it have the tapered barrel like the 642 or is it straight?

thanks and God Bless

wow, no inputs? Well, I've checked on a number of web sites and it seems to be a reasonable price, not a good deal but not a total rip either.

If you plan on keeping it forever, go for it, but if you ever want to sell it, yours may be referred to as a model 60 that doesn't shoot .357
But if you're gonna keep it forever, who cares.

I don't know about the barrel.

i'd pass. premium price for a gun you can't inspect in person. i think for the money, you could find an earlier 60 in person. or even a nice nickle 36. i don't think we've seen the end of the fear buying. gently used j frames are still being traded in on more "banable" plastic hi cap autos (fools). if this is the exact gun you want, go for it. if you simply want to add a prelock 60 to your collection, i'd say hold off and wait for the perfect deal, then strike. good luck, and don't forget to post pics whatever you decide.

Good thoughts guys. I love how the .357 version look with the 2" barrel and full underlug, but I know I won't shoot .357 throught it and I know I'll never sell it. This gun will go to the kids' with the rest. I do think there are better deals out there and if I waited a year I might luck out and find one locally but then again finding a good used S&W revolver in my area is VERY rare indeed. So I figure I'm paying $50 - $75 too much, not to mention a transfer but it does seem to be a very clean model so I'm going to take the risk.

An advantage of the 60-12 is that it'll fit the holsters I have for my 642....

here's hoping

And thanks for the inputs!

If you have to add shipping and xfer fees on top of the price,pass..
unless you just HAVE to have it.
I prolly would not pay that much locally either for a used one.
