I use Birchwood Casey 2 in 1 Bore Scrubber as my solvent . Have for sometime now in all platforms. Recently, I had a revolver bore with a small , but stubborn to remove amount of lead fouling in which I wetted the bore with the above named product , let stand overnight, and brushed & dried the next morning. I then shot the revolver the following day, then cleaned & lightly oiled the bore the day after that. I've only recently heard / read all the hoopla about ammonia based solvents and the opinions of some on possible negative effects. Though I have no proof of, nor are the ingredients listed, it does smell as though it has ammonia. The confusing thing to me is that it's advertised on the bottle as having a rust inhibitor if a light film is left , which suggests to me they have no issues with it to metal with long term exposure , actually almost promoting it. I read where one respected barrel maker claims his findings show no evidence of commercial, ammonia based solvents harmful either while on the other hand there is a strong view the other way. I've never seen any damage in my bores, but I don't remember ever soaking one overnight before either. Think I hurt anything ?
