Hey folks, I'm coming to you with the following information as my very good friend wants to trade me one of his mint/NIB classic Colt 1911's for my Browning O/U Grade II classic shotgun. I mentioned to him that I would post the information here on the forum to see what type of feedback and accurate appraisals I could receive from you guys (gals). We're looking for honest assessments as we're both good friends and of course, he feels as though his pistols might be 'worth' more, etc. I'm looking to trade him for one of his pistols and if you also have a recommendation, please feel free to share. The first is the format to the information and the following is the information itself. Thank you in advance.

I dunno. I've seen the values of those pistols going way up in the past year. We haven't had any problems selling vintage 1911s for about those figures, and more.

Here are my best estimations without seeing the guns.Numbers are retail...

1. $1500-1700
2. $1200-1400
3. Same as 2
4. $1000-1200
5. $699

Tell him I said so

The only gun in that bunch that would interest me would be the Gold Cup. NIB with a Colt .22 conversion kit the price while high doesn't seem quite as unreasonable as the others. Whether the trade is fair also depends on the condition and configuration of the shotgun.

The one caution I would make regarding the Brit gun is the caliber. I've seen a couple of these but in .455 not .45ACP. Some were converted to .45ACP but I'd check to make sure. Here's a link you might want to look at.

The one I'm interested in is the Gold Cup. Can anyone expand upon this model including the serial number and what it might be worth between two people in trade or bought outright? Positives, negatives about this model year Colt?

Series 70 Gold Cup is worth $900 max to me. Conversion Kit $300.

You can get them cheaper, and you can spend a lot more. Check out SALES at Gunbroker.com for like items. Folks ask a lot (GB listing is free), knowing that some fool with too much free cash may eventually buy it. Look at completed sales/auctions for better indicator of true/open market values. :)

I dont think that theres enough info their to justifiy thouse prices. Just because someone says its a collectors piece doesent mean that it is. I cant even begin to tell you how many people i've seen try pass off pistols that have been reparked or refinished or even have replacement parts as collectors pieces and charge 1700+ when its worth about 500 as a shooter.

I'm not trying to say that your friend is trying to rip people off, i'm just saying that for me thats not enough info for thouse kinds of prices. I would want to see some very high rez pics or see it in person if i was the one buying but then again i'm not so to each his own.
