Recommendation for a .223/5.56 AR - so far I was looking at Colt vs LMT, but I like the piston concept in the Sig 556.

Recommendation for a high quality FAL in .308/7.62mm

Recommendation for a high quality AK (7.62x39)

I've narrowed it down to that.

One condition for all - has to be all black. No wood if possible. I have this thing against wood (South Florida - fears of it warping). Rather than arguing that point which may be irrational - let's just keep it all metal and polymer and black. :)

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm fairly familiar with the options for AR's.... but mainly FALs and AKs are what I'm new to.

Ultimately the goal is to buy 2 identical rifles. 1 to take to the range all the time... and the other to have for SHTF SD/HD. The idea is to be familiar enough with the range one that using the idenitcal other rifle should be a minor transition.

Anyways.... who do you go to for FALs and AKs here in the US? - manufacturer wise.

My choices?
1. Bushmaster (good gun for good money)
2. Anything DSArms, (Only choice and luckily, a really good one).
3. Arsenal, (like a sore rooster, can't hardly beat it)

My choices and my choices only, buy what you want.

Olympic arms isn't bad these days. Their k16 is a decent entry-level AR, mine has treated me quite well, and it appears to be made to a very high standard. There is, for example, almost no rattling between the upper and lower receiver halves, this being how it came in the box, no adjustment to the rings or accu-wedges or such tomfoolery.

The 16 inch bull barrel is more than a little strange, but it handles heat quite well.

sorry.... like I said - I'm new to the area.

Saiga for AK - that seems like a bit of trouble. You can only buy them neutered as a regular style rifle... and have to do a lot of modding.... or am I wrong?

Bushmaster and Olympic Arms I know about and am looking at.

What is Charter Arms good at producing/distributing? Same question for DSarms..... and "Arsenal".

which produces which?

If you look around a bit, I know that some distributors sell pre-modified Saiga's that were done up by Tromix or some other company
