Need round ball size for a Zouave Carbine

I bought a Euroarms made 1863 Remington Zouave Carbine ..58 cal . Would like to order a round ball mold for it , but not sure what size 58 cal ..mold to get . .562 , .570 or .575 ..anyone shoot one of these with round ball ? Minnie `s are out of the question for me ..my old shoulder wouldn`t enjoy them .

Dixie Gun Works suggests a 0.570" patched round ball or a 0.575" Minie ball.

Well this was easy enough ...Lee doesn`t sell a .570 roundball mold ..they do sell the .575 I`ll just have to use thiner patches if needed.

I have a 575 round ball mold and a .58 caliber rifled musket. They only work together for me if I have a long, fiberglass range rod to ram the patched balls down with. You aren't going to be happy in a hunting situation with that size ball and the itty-bitty steel rammer the rifle is equipped with. A 570 ball is better but only JUST manageable with the steel rammer by using a palm protector over the little end. If you aren't hunting though, a range rod is no problem.

I've found the minie wadcutters, the ones which look like miniature garbage cans, are good from my rifle, lighter than regular minies, pleasant to shoot, easy loading and accurate enough for 100 yard deer hunting. I never know if the gun kicks when I'm hunting anyway.

I made a trip to SportsmansWarehouse today ..they do carry the .570 balls ..I also ordered a .575 Lee ball Mold from TrackoftheWolf ...14.95 not much more than the price of a box of balls ..I thought it odd Lee doesn`t make a .570 round ball mold but they don`t ..I`ll just use my range rod when I load ...probally won`t shoot her that much anyway ...just always wanted one , hung her over the fireplace already ..But if I buy it I like to shoot it ..so I`m fixed up well enough now...thanks for the inputs .

I would go for a minnie instead better Accuarcy. my 2 cents

The .570 ball shoots really good out of my Euroarms Zouave. The Minie bullet is almost as good, but shoots low due to the extra weight.

I sure hope this Zouave carbine ..shoot as well as I`ve always heard the rifles do ..I like the sights ...if it ever quits raining here , I`ll get to shoot her ..If it doesn`t stop , I might ought to build a bigger boat .
