my new Glock 17L is accurate by not reliable enough to digest all 9mm rounds. my rangemaster coached me to not 'limp-wrist' the 17L, keep it locked solidly on target so each round blows back the slide reliably.

I have gotten misfeeds and stovepipes nearly every round of 115 gr until he showed me the trick. But I'm not enthused about having a weapon that requires real technique to have it run smoothly. So, I want to play with various recoil spring rates.

I've found 11,12,13,14,and 15 lb springs available. OEM is supposedly 16 or 17 lbs.

Anyone know where I should start?

I've never had a failure in my 17L and I've shot every thing from anemic 115gr Blazzer Brass to 147gr Gold Dots.

my g34 is similar , even when it was brand new, bone stock factory condition , it would give me random fail to extracts. casing left in the chamber and its has a new live round directly behind it. it kills me in USPSA cause it takes so much time to clear and reload.

I doubt its limp wristing , for almost 1 year now Iv regularly been doing grip strength exercises every other day.

doesn't matter what mag I use happens with all 6 of them and Iv changed the extractor and ejector

the only thing that seem to prevent this for my gun is after every tournament I have to clean the hell out of the breech face/chamber/extractor/extractor cutout and spring channel. iv never owned a gun so sensitive to fouling. my glock will never make it past 200 rounds with out cleaning.

my g19 and g34 run flawlessly.

I believe it is due to the longer heavier slide. Now that I am trained up on this limp-wristing thing, I can control the pistol, I can make it run flawlessly every single round, I can make it fail to feed every single round. Have done it deliberate a dozen times to prove it to myself.

So, yes, I can keep it down and on target with a conscious effort and it cycles fine, but I don't care for the idea I must stay alert and on it, to make the pistol function like anything else would, I want it to feed even if I relax my hold for a second.

There has to be a reason Wolff and others make lighter springs so as to be able to tune to the ammo you use. The parts would not exist if there wasn't a sale for them.

I'll report back once I've had time to test various recoil spring rates.

One of the facts about the 17L , is that the slide on it and the 17 , weigh exactly the same. It's because of the cut-out in the top on the 17L which makes the slide capable of using the same RS. The L, should shoot the same as it's shorter brother .

my assembled 17L slide weighs in at 13.2 oz and my 19 is 12.3 oz. I don't have a 17 to weigh and compare.

I'll experiment with the springs once they arrive from Brownell's
