i been wanting a rifle for a while mainly a 22 but everywhere i go the 22's tend to be one of the more expensive types of calibre. does anyone have a good suggestion for a rifle that is on the cheap side that is under a 100 bucks? that isnt junk

oh. I am used to traveling to these things. the good ones are about 1 hour away from where i live. but at a retail store you will more then likely not find a .22 under 100. sporting goods stores sometimes have used guns for sale. you can check them out.

How close are you to shelby ohio? Sportsmans den tends to have some. Also I know for a fact that Clelands outdoor world just outside of toledo has a few sub $200 22s in stock, some new and some used. Cabelas has some that are an average deal. Run through a few more gun stores and you should find something a little older cheap or find something by savage or marlin under $200.

What is your price range? I don't know how cheap you are looking to go but I know Clelands last week had Savage MK II F in stock which was as cheap as you can get a new rifle today. I know they have a few sub $200 older rifles as well. Hell go to a Walmart that sells rifles. They have the best prices you can find and many sub $200 options. I don't know how cheap you have to get but if you can't afford $150ish go to a bunch of pawn shops. They are going to be about your only chance to find a dirt cheap rifle though who knows how well it will work.

The Stevens Model 300 I've seen new for about $125 and is basicly a Savage Mark II...

Also:
Check the Pawn shops for any older Marlin/Glenfield Model 60 or model 25. Both are good rifles, pretty darn accurate, and fun to shoot.

Hope this helps...

I got a Mossberg Plinkster on sale about a year ago for $89. It's run 100% and I'm sure the price hasn't gone up that much.

Walmart even recently had pre accutrigger Mark IIFs for $117. I think that would be money well spent over a used rifle for under 100, especially if you are less than sure what to look for in a used gun. Call around and see where the nearest Walmart is that sells guns because many do not. Then call them and see what they have in stock and what they can order.

Like they say, pawn shop Marlin 60 or old Remington, Mossberg, Winchester, Stevens, Savage, or Marlin.

A .22 is NOT the most expensive kind; they are always the least expensive kind of rifle, generally speaking.

BUT, pawn shop inventories right now are a weird combination. They have way too many items in stock BESIDES guns, due to the economy. But the guns are nearly picked clean, just like every other gun source right now (since November).

So gun shows or buying new. If you want to go new but cheap-cheap-cheap, grab a Mossberg 702 Plinkster from Walmart or Academy - supposedly they're good guns. They were $88 plus tax brand new bout a year back.

no gun new, is 100 bucks or less; you might find a used 22, or a mosin nagant for 100 or less. here is your problem, 5 to 10 boxes of centerfire ammo , will now cost you 100 bucks to fire. So what you need is a 22. Get a Savage 64, a marlin 80 or 81, new or used all the way back 70 years. they will be around 100 bucks, you can find other used 22's for about 100 bucks, a new mossberg plinkster will be about 100 bucks, they are hit or miss for reliability.
ammo, you can buy several diff 50 round boxes, of all kinds of diff ammo, for 2 to 4 dollars a box, and spend a lot of time, testing all diff kinds of ammo, finding out which one shoots best for you. So the 22 is the way to go for you, being that you, like myself, tend not to like to spend money.

A lot of the prices in this thread are from before the great Obama gun inflation. Seems to me right now anything that isn't total crap brings at least $100. Anyone with any to sell knows the prices are up and is holding out for more. That's why I think the best value probably lies in seeing what Walmart has, or what they can order.

That's what I was thinking

+10 on the Marlin 60, look around enough and you should be able to find one for 80-120.00 ish

Even at inflated .22 ammo prices, they're still pretty easy on the wallet to shoot.

i will consider the marlin 60.. but it looks like my chance of buying a gun went out the window a few hours ago i forgot about my gf's birthday :| ... im dead if i dont get her something NICE fast...

I agree...AFTER you get your GF something nice and build up enough cash give King G. a PM. That M60 is a good gun and his price isn't too bad either. Whatever you do, don't cheap out and buy something cheap with poor reliability/build quality because you haven't the money for something nice. Not to say that you should spend money that you do not have or that good guns cannot be had cheaply; but buy something nice that you will be happy with. If you can't afford it now, save until you can. You will be much happier in the long run. GL, Mav.

+1

Save up and get a decent .22 rifle. You won't be happy with a piece of junk and you will just end up spending even more money for a replacement.

Here's another option I'm surprised no one has mentioned:

If you don't mind going with a high-powered rifle, consider a Mosin Nagant 91/30. Dirt cheap, fun to shoot, and ammo is plentiful and inexpensive.
