Need some help...primer stuck, case jammed

Okay so this is my first day reloading and I got a bunch done with no problems whatsoever until this little doozy. I finished the round and went to take it out of the shell holder but it wouldnt come out. confused I took the shell holder off and what I saw was that the primer was not seated correctly (using the Lee safety prime system) and it is at an angle such that it is causing the round to be stuck in the case holder. I don't know what to do because there is live powder in the round and that scares the heck out of me trying to force the round out. I have some pictures but they arent the best. If you know how to help I would really appreciate it

Looks to me like the insides of the primer are exposed. In that case I'd dump the whole thing in a bucket of water for a while and then pull it apart when I knew the primer and powder were deactivated.

Wait for some more experienced folks to chime in though as I may be completely wrong on this.

Put the shell-holder back in the ram, run it up all the way, and grab the bullet with a pair of pliers.

Then lower the ram and pull the bullet & dump the powder.

Then deprime it with the proper die.

rcmodel: I tried that but I couldn't get a good hold on the bullet so what I did was grabbed the bullet with a set of vice grips and the brass with some other pliers and used good old muscle and got them apart. I soaked it in water first just to be sure.

If you have an impact bullet puller (the kind that looks like a plastic hammer) most of them accept the shellholder instead of the collet. Just put in in the impact puller and remove the bullet and powder.

I wouldn't with a crushed primer in that kind of shape.

No telling what might happen if the primer anvil or crushed compound moved from impact and lit off the round.

To prevent this problem in the future, pay close attention to how the primers are laid in the safety prime and also how they are laid in the lever prime. They should be upside down in the lever prime before you try to seat them.

One thing about reloading, it requires your close attention and when you're new and not used to things, it's easy to miss something like that.

yep it sure did...I was a little scared so I just kept far away from the primer

That's one of the reasons that I don't prime my cases on a turret or progressive. I prime my cases on a single stage press set up with a Lee Auto Prime II. All primed cases are inspected before they see the turret...

You still haven't said how you got that live round out of the shell holder...

I just stayed far away from the primer with the other pliers

"...soaked it in water..." That won't do anything.
I've used a jeweller's screwdriver(those wee sets) to pry out a primer that got seated sideways. Gently prying on the cup side won't cause it to go off. A primer needs a fairly hard smack to set it off.

^ Oh well I didn't know I was just going off of stuff I read on here. But anyways the pliers were far from being close to the primer so there was no real danger unless something totally crazy happened.

Hornaday collet bullet puller. That kinda thing happens to me occasionally if the Loadmaster jams up. Pull the die, load in the puller die, and gank the bullet. Best money I've spent so far.

I would have chalked that one up to a totally bad round. then sprayed some heavy lubricant on the case. then took a rasp file and filed down the brass to expose a piece. then pulled it back kinda like pealing a banana. then just pulled the bullet out and dumped the powder.

Now that's the hard way Scrat. You could have just thrown it in a river in passing. Much easier I would think...Now me? I still would have used my "error eraser". That way I could have reused the bullet and the case...I'm quite cheap...Scotsman you know...
