Need Some Help With .17 Remington in an AR

For my 17 Remington AR, here are the over all length I have used with different bullets. Not sure if they are deviate from book values or not. I have slept since I was working up loads for the AR.
25 V-Max 2.197"
25 HP Berger Match 2.175"
25 HP Berger Varmint 2.150"
25 HP Hornady 2.177"
The cartridge lengths measured off the ogive with a comparator are similar for the above lengths except the 25 hp Berger Varmint is 0.030" longer.
All function fine in my AR. All give groups smaller than an inch at 100 yards. My AR likes the 25 HP Berger Varmint.
I don't see any reason the bullet could be seated out farther within safe amounts for good neck tension, chamber length and all that other safety stuff.
I never varied seating depth much. Hope this helps.

I don't load for the 17 Rem, but common sense with an AR, dictates a maximum COAL of 2.25", so you have a .100" to work with. You didn't mention the bullet that you're using.
www.hodgdon.com shows 2.170" with a 20gr V-max, and as you're probably aware that COAL is flexible to the point of touching the lands. If you have that .100" to play with, you need to determine that point and back off at least .020" to prevent sticking a bullet in the lands.
If that's too involved, than stick with the recommended COAL.

I just looked at my loaded rounds compared to the length of the 25 HP Berger Varmint. If the 25 grain bullet is seated longer out to 2.250", there may not be enough neck tension to hold the bullet. At 2.150", there is not much bullet in the case neck.
The longer 30 grain bullets may get you out close to magazine length. Again, I see no reason that cannot be done as you will be increasing space inside the case. But all the gun scribes talk about the 17 Reminigton peaking pressures quickly.
I have not tried anything other than the 25 grain bullets in my 17 Remington AR.
My 17 Remington loads cycle the action just fine.
As a side note, I also have a 204 Ruger AR and I am able to load them with the bullet seated to 2.250".
